Professionalism and its traits : designer attributes, setting up a design office, finding clients,
business correspondence, brief and briefing, letter of contract
Unit II
Contracts, pricing and trade : professionalism and ethics, costing design and fee estimation, letter
of intent
Unit III
Management, contract documents and specifications : management of design process, human
factor in managing design / team work, design as a management tool, design evaluation, Design
optimization, Design synthesis
Unit IV
Business models and managing professional practice : patent and design registration
laws/procedure, intellectual property, patents types, trade markers, copyrights, types of patents in
India
Unit V
Planning, management and marketing : strategic planning, money management, fundamentals of
marketing, promotional tools and methods
Unit VI
Selling strategies, design presentations and employee management : selling process, project
presentations, employment contracts, goals and career options
