Lesson Plan for Grade 7 January 20,2020


I. Objective
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:

Get information from the different parts of the book and from general
references in the library.

II. Subject Matter:


Parts of a Book
Reference English 1 by
Josefina P. Gabriel and Edda M. Martires

III. Preliminary Activity


1. Motivation
Teacher will divide the class into 5 groups.
Each group will arrange the following scrambled letters to form a word.
Each group will have 2 scrambled letters to form.

After arranging the letters, two representatives of each group will post
their work on the board.

2. Presentation
Teacher will ask the students:
“What do you think are the words that you have formed?”
(Parts of the Book)
“Do you know that books also have different parts and its information?”
As a student, knowing how to use the books in locating information is a
skill. The first step to ensure effective use of the books as a source of
information is to know its parts.

B. Lesson Proper (Small Group Work)

1. Activity
Teacher will divide the class into 5 groups.
Each group will use their English Learners material to answer the
following questions asked in the activity.
Each group will have 2 questions to answer.

Group 1
1. You want to know the meaning of the word “befriend”. (Glossary)
2. You want to know the authors purpose of writing the book. (Preface)

Group 2
1. You need to find a specific topic from a book without spending too
much time in locating it. (Index)
2. You want to know how many lessons are there in a chapter of a
textbook. (Table of Contents)
Group 3
1. You need to know the information on publication to make a
bibliographic entry. (Copyright Page)
2. You want to know the references used by the author in writing the
book. (bibliography)
Group 4
1. You want to know the authors gratitude to those who helped him write
the book. (Acknowledgement)
2. You want to know the added information in a certain book. (Appendix)

Group 5
1. You want to know the title of the Book. (Title Page)
2. You want to know the content of the book. (Text/Body of the book.)

2.Analysis
“Our lesson for today will help us get information from the different parts
of the book”

“A book is a tool used by students as reference for their class


discussions. To use it effectively, one has to know its major parts and
the information given by each. Knowing them makes information
easier and faster.”

Teacher will present realia of the book. Teacher will discuss each part
and show each student the actual picture or part in the books provided.

1. Title Page- It gives the complete title of the book, the author and the
name of the publisher.
2. Copyright Page- It shows ownership and protection in publishing a
book. This gives the date and place of publication.
3. Preface- It gives the authors purpose in writing the book, its
organization and its method of presentation. This part sometimes
called FOREWORD or INTRODUCTION.
4. Table of Contents- It presents the main topics discussed in the book
along with the pages where they begin. The topics are divided into
chapters and units, are listed chronologically or in the order of their
appearance in the book.
5. Text/ Body of the Book- This is the main part of the book.
6. Glossary-It is a little dictionary. It helps the reader in
understanding the technical terms used in the book. It can be seen
at the back part of the book.
7. Index- a detailed alphabetical listing of the ideas or topics obtained
in the book.
8. Bibliography- it lists in alphabetical order the reference used by the
author in writing.

9. Acknowledgement- It expresses the authors gratitude to the person


who in one way or another helped him in writing the book.
10. Appendix- It contains added information to the book. Not all book
however, have this part.

3. Abstract
“T: Based on the different parts of the book that we had discussed who
can name one and tell the class what information does it contain?”
“Why is it important for us to know the different parts of the book?”

4. Application (Show and tell Activity)


Teacher will ask random students the questions about the parts of the
book. The student will show the part being asked in the class.

2. What do you call a little dictionary found at the back part of the
book? (Glossary)
3. It is the main part of the book? (Text/Body of the book)
4. It gives the authors purpose in writing the book. (Preface,
Foreword, Introduction)
5. A detailed alphabetical listing of ideas or topics. (Index)

A. Use your English book Learners material to answer the following
questions. (1-5)

1. How many pages does your book have? (506)


2. Give the meaning of the word “abreast” (up to a particular standard
or level of knowledge)
3. How many illustrators and artist does your book have? (4)
4. How many tasks does lesson 4 in module 1 have? (16 tasks)
5. In what page can you find the story “Centipede”? (page 160)

B. Identify the part of the book stated.

6. It shows the date when the book was published. (Copyright Page)
7. This is where the author writes his gratitude to those who helped
him write the book. (Acknowledgement)
8. It shows all the topics that the book has. (Table of Contents)
9. It shows the complete title of the book. (Title Page)

V. Assignment
Look for a book, identify each part by listing at least 3 information in it.
