Workshop on “Microwave Components Design using CST Software”

Department of ECE organised one day state level technical Workshop on “Microwave Components
Design using CST Software” on Thursday, 30 January2020. The main objectives of the workshop is to
understand the importance of Metamaterial structures and their applications in electromagnetics, the significance
of Deep learning techniques in antenna design, the modern wireless standards that are crucial for next generation
communication and utilize the derived characteristics of Metamaterials into designing advanced antennas. After
attending the workshop, the participants will be able to take up small antenna design projects to study
experimentally the electromagnetic characteristics of Metamaterial structures and their significance. 52 interested
participants from various colleges have attented in this one day workshop.

Prof.E.A.Mohamed Ali, HOD/ECE department delivered the welcome address. The first session was
taken by Prof. S.Prasad Jones Christy Dass Assistant Professor / ECE, K.Ramakrishnan College of Technology,
Trichirappalli. In this session, he has explained the basics of microwave components, various types, applications
and design of antennas. Consequently, the second session in the forenoon was handled by Mr.Iyappan , Trainer,
µmaker Solution Ltd., Trichirappalli. In this session, he has elaborated the design of wearable antennas. The
practical hands-on training for the design of Patch Antenna with and without Metamaterial using CST software
was conducted by both the resource persons. Finally , Our beloved Principal Dr. A.A.Mohamed Faizal
,M.E.,Ph.D.,M.I.S.T.E.,M.I.E.T.E.,M.I.E(I) motivated the participant to apply the knowledge gained in this
workshop for practical implementation of antenna design in his inspiration speech and also distributed the
certificates to the participants. All the arrnagement for the workshop was done by faculty members and students
of ECE department.
