E LECTRICITY
When two objects are rubbed together to create static electricity, one object gives up electrons and
becomes more positively charged while the other material collects electrons and becomes more
negatively charged. Then both electron as charges are rejected from each other, they tend to move to
the point of the object to avoid them, which causes your hair to stand upright.
The danger of static electricity comes when the transfer of charge is so great that it creates a spark.
One of the most common occurrences of static electricity dangers is refueling a vehicle. The driver may
be carrying excess electrons, which may create a spark when you touch the fuel pump. Exposing the
spark to volatile gasoline may create an unexpected combustion.
