Introduction

Practices of the technicians in repairing the defective appliances include,

Proper use of all safety equipment (PPE), vehicle and diagnostic tools provided

by LG, Conducts technical diagnosis and performs specialized repairs on a

variety of electronics and home appliances, Diagnose problems, assess the

extent of the problem, document findings, make decisions to repair the product

and/or replace parts, Immediately and accurately process paperwork and

perform data entry upon completion of each job, Pre-screen next day service

calls by obtaining necessary information to help diagnose problem prior to

arriving at customer’s home. Typical duties of technicians include diagnosing

problems, troubleshooting, and conducting safety checks (Chegg Inc., 2017)

The practices of the technicians in repairing appliances are difficult

because as a trainee in this major, I encounter many different kinds of problem

that I do not know on what I do to resolve the problem. However, personally, I

want to be a technician even if it not a very simple job as of now because some

factories are using micro component that is hard to repair. But I know this skill will

bring to a bright future and I know this kind of job will help my family to overcome

or fight poverty. This inspired me to pursue research related to technician

practices.

I would like to study on the practices of the technicians in repairing

appliances because I want to know the strategies of the technicians in repairing

appliances and the thing that they do first when repairing.

Practical Research I.

Research Questions

This study aimed to determine the practices of the technician in repairing

appliances. Specifically, it sought to answer question:

1. What are strategies of technicians in repairing appliances?

2. What do technicians do before repairing the appliances?

Significance of the Study

This research is important because it can help us to improve or to develop

our skills and knowledge in repairing appliances.

Scope and Limitations

This study focused on the practices of the technician in repairing

appliances. This was conducted last December, 2016. The participants of this

study were the NC II holder technicians. They were interviewed and observed.

I need this research because I was still a student. This research depends

on my limited knowledge on how to comfort research.

Methodology

Research Design

This research is qualitative. I used phenomenology, one of the qualitative

designs because I gathered data about practices of the technician in repairing

appliances.

Sampling

The sampling procedure that I used was judgement sampling. I chose

technicians who are already an Electronic Product Assembly and Servicing

(EPAS) NC II holder and they have an electronic shop.

Research Instrument and Data Collection

I used interview and observation. I observed the technicians on what they

do in their shop then after that, I interviewed them.

Data Analysis

I transcribed the data from interview. I read and reread the transcription

and coded those answer for my research question. After coding, I extracted the

coded data and grouped them according to themes that answer the research

question. The grouped data were assigned with themes that described the core

ideas taken from interview and observation.

Result and Discussion

This section presents the result and discussion of the findings of the study.

Table1.shows the practices of the technicians in repairing appliances. The

strategies in repairing appliances include performing the practices as their

testing, preparing, organizing the procedure/steps, assuring the condition of the

appliances, and safety practices in energizing, and because strategies isa

example of the practices.

Testing. Test the voltage of the electricity from electrical line going to

mechanic or heat. This is one of the small possible problem the appliances the

electrical line it’s need to test the AC line in order to know where the section

defect the electrical or the mechanic/heat. One of the technicians said:

“test ang linya sa kutyente from electrical to mechanical or heat” (test the line of the
current from electrical going to mechanical or heat)IT2RQ1A5

The first thing to do is to check the electrical appliances you were using at

the continuity test, If the meter shows continuity, the short may be in the wire or

the circuit breaker(James, n.d.).

Preparing. The tools needed are already prepared in repairing the

appliances and this tool must be complete and there is many different type of it.

In my observation:

The most important things to have when working with tools are basic

protective gear to keep you safe while working just like gloves, rubber shoes and

power tools (Complete Protection, 2017).

Organizing the Procedure/Steps. The practices in repairing the

appliance are being organize then it need to troubleshoot clearly to assured that

the appliances make functional. In my observation:

Assuring the Condition of the Appliances. If there is a little problem

make sure that it resolve and it needs to diagnose the appliances to determine

the fault. One of the technicians said:

Testing involves a visual inspection of the equipment and any flexible

cables for good condition, and also where required, verification of grounding

(earthing) continuity, and a test of the soundness of insulation between the

current carrying parts, and any exposed metal that may be touched. The formal

limits for pass/fail of these electrical tests vary somewhat depending on the

category of equipment being tested (Wikipedia, February 2017).

The Safety Practices in Energizing. Use 110 volts in repairing testing

the appliance when it due to prevent or avoid fluctuation damage and look to the

book to assured if it correct.one of the technician said:

240V is much more dangerous so that might be a reason that the U.S.

steps it down to 110. There are benefits either way. 110 has been known to kill a

lot people though because it causes your muscles to contract if you come in to

contact with 110 and you can't let go (The Naked Scientists, 2016).

After repairing or replacing the equipment, they test it again to ensure its

proper functioning (Bsr, n.d).

Practices before Repairing Appliances

Table 2 shows the first thing to do in repairing appliances. The first thing to

do in repairing appliances include performing the practices as they entertain,

preparing, getting information, thinking, researching, testing, assuring the safety

practices, and because repairing the appliances is one of the technician

practices.

Entertaining. Entertain the customer first then discuss something to make

the customer relax and enjoy. Entertain the costumer by telling the possible

trouble and the safety precaution. I’ll entertain the costumer by telling what the

best solution to give a high or long warranty of the appliances. One of the

technicians said:

Preparing. The tools are already prepared when entertaining the

costumer and it’s very important that the tool is complete and there is a

difference type of tools being prepared. In my observation:

Getting Information. Ask the owner why his appliances become defective

to get some information and it’s very important to show the reason why it’s

damage. One of the technicians said:

Get the best customer insights possible! Find out which questions

to ask in order to resolve issues, develop products, and understand the problem

(Tyler Brown, 2015).

Thinking. Technicians are thinking first the safety guideline to make me

safe in fixing the damage or the defect. The technician said:

The most important things to have when working with tools are basic

protective gear to keep you safe while working just like gloves, rubber shoes and

Researching. Referred to the book or ask more something to the teacher

or someone who knows about repairing. In my observation:

The book has it all...written by a pro with 40 years of hands-on repair and

teaching experience...this book is like brain candy(GeekDad, n.d).

Testing. The technician tests the electric line immediately by using the

continuity test especially in the AC line cord. In my observation:

Fixed Wire Testing is the testing of the electrical installations within a

building to ensure they are safe & compliant, and employers are legally required

to ensure, as far as is reasonably practical, the health, safety and welfare of their

employees(Vericserv, 2017).

Assuring the Safety Practices.Wearing a shoes before to start in

repairing to avoid the accident cause by electricity. One of the technician said:

Insights from the study

Based on the findings of my study, I learned how the technician repair all

the defective appliances and their strategies to make the operation fast, and also

I learned how they perform all they practice in repairing the appliances. It also

gave me an idea on how to develop my skills in repairing, and also how to repair

appliances in a safe way. The research that I did was very important because

there was information that can help people wanted to know the practices of the

technician in repairing appliances especially to those students who enrol in

electronic.

I would like to suggest that we should learn all the practices of the

technician in repairing appliances because someday if we have appliances we

know how to care it and how to repair it. It also gave us extra income when we

know how to repair appliances because we know all the electronic device can

experience trouble.

Doing this research encouraged to pursue in college because all

information that found in my research are very important and applicable. I believe

the knowledge when nurtured will help me gain money to supply our daily need,

tuition, financial support in making project.
