Where’s the Patis? By Carmen Guerrero Nakpil

The short story of Carmen Guerrero Nakpil entitled where’s the patis is a kind of
story that pertains to the Filipinos who strive to be a tourist and travel abroad and
experience the way of living, different cuisine and delicacies around Asian and American
countries. But the thing is, despite of all the thrill and excitement in other country, it is
undeniable that Filipinos are still craving for what they have experience in our own
country, just like the culture and the ambiance.

The following paragraph stated how Filipinos easily adapt the culture and tradition
of other countries; how they act, their behaviour is being influence by the people living
there. The way how they interact with others is being renewed due to the influence of the
new society that they are living with. But in depth, they still miss the Filipino living, the
foods, the places, and others as they compared the food and places they have seen in other
country.

They seek for rice in other countries restaurant, in Europe and America they find
out that the rice is being treated as a vegetable there, mostly of the food being served are
rich in carbohydrates. Then as they experience the best selling foods being served, they
find out that it can be compared to a food for the sick, a food that is being taken by the
Filipinos who are in fever or sick.

All in all, the main idea of the context was, Filipino may be denationalized, forget the
culture, and be indifferent in behaviour; but their craving and longing for Filipino delicacies
and dishes will still remain. And the answer to this craving is to find for it to fulfil their
satisfaction, “Nothing can be compare to Filipino cuisine”.
