Nothing is permanent. As what a cliché used to suggest. A brand new stuff today, an old funny trend tomorrow.

We
are serious innovators extracting ideas on every part of human existence. A practical hyperbole. Many trends plagued
our news feeds and timelines. Several links paved their way through our chat boxes and clipboards. Let’s take a look
of the top trends we can’t deny we’ve been hooked with:

LODI. PETMALU. WERPA. Words that had been automatically included in our modern vocabulary. Sequels of famous
slangs including bes, beshie and bessywap. Common words pronounced syllabically reversed or spelled backwards so
as to ‘lodi’ for ‘idol’, ‘petmalu’ for ‘malupet’ and ‘werpa’ for p(o)wer. These slangs roamed the net tremendously and
became part of our daily convos. This linguistic shift isn’t new anymore as we already devised several word formations
during the previous years. We’ve been in the era of erpats (father), yosi(sigarilyo/cigarette) and amats(tama). It’s like
fashion that comes and goes. This manner towards innovative expression of words were also evident in our history as
the writer-patriot Marcelo Del Pilar used the pseudonym “Plaridel”, a jumbled form of his last name Del Pilar. This is
not a negative matter. This unique language ability showcases our creativity and innovativeness towards established
concepts. Moreso, language is dynamic. Changing. One of the impermanent things in the world. As long as we use it to
promote harmonious communication, there’s nothing wrong with all these twists and turns. Dosalu, Noypi!

SPICY NOODLE CHALLENGE. Let’s add a little spice to our normal curly meal. Or should I say A LOT OF SPICE? Another
gastronomic challenge drew a flak of brave contenders across the social media space. This challenge will surely leave
your palate longing for a gallon of water or thirsting your tongue with a consistent glass of milk. Literally hot !

BABY SHARK SONG. The song of the year perhaps. It is originally featured in the Pinkfong education brand by South
Korean media start-up SmartStudy which says that the tune went viral after being covered by K-pop stars like Girls’
Generation, Red Velvet and Black Pink. The “Baby Shark” series was launched in late 2015 but started going viral in the
year 2016. Its gained popularity gave way to company’s increased revenue amidst of unintentional marketing. The
Shark Song could had been the next big thing from South Korea after Psy’s “Gangnam Style”. Good reputation for the
sharks! Bye bye Shallows and Jaws!

KYA KYA TAGA SAAN KA? The usual question for a newly-met companion? The new craze surfed in a wave of popularity
in its tune of the Budots dance. Wanna ask me?

DIVISORIA SONG. The Pasok mga Suki Song swept the net with its numerous clips of version. Curious of the man behind
the groovy song? Sammy Leuterio is the name. He is a veteran Divisoria vendor who’s in his job for almost 30 years. He
became an instant celebrity in Divisoria after the video went viral. A golden voice, literally.
