Listening to recordings of the music is an important part of your preparation. | previously sent links to YouTube performances for these pieces. Itis always a good idea to hear multiple performances. Do not try to prepare your audition without repeated listening, Ie will show. ‘The screened audition is to determine seating. Its called “screened” because the conducting staffs seated behind a screen, Seating is based solely on performance. Please remember that once you enter the audition room, you will not be allowed to talk. You will only be identified by your assigned number. Do not forget your number. When seating results are posted, you will be identified by number only. The screened audition will consist of the following components: I. Scales and arpeggios: When you first enter, we will choose a key and you will be asked to play a major scale and arpeggio in that key, and then its relative minor. Please play the required number of octaves. Remember, play your scales at ‘reasonable tempo. Steadiness of pulse is far more importane than virtuosity 2, Excerpts: On the day of your screened audition, we will let you know which excerpts you wll be playing forthe audition. Count all the rests within the brackets unless it is otherwise notated on the excerpt. All double stops and chords in the string excerpts are divisi unless otherwise noted. You will be expected to pla the excerpts in order with shore pauses in between. You should be able to determine tempos by lstening to recordings. 3. Sight-reading: There will beat least one excerpt used to test your sight-reading ability. When sight-reading, ery to play with a consistent pulse. If you fumble a note, don’t worry. Keep going. Otherwise one mistake wil lead to another. Remember to check both the key signature and the time signature of the piece. Note: You don't need to prepare a solo piece for the screened auditions. When you have completed the sight reading, please quietly leave the room. If, for whatever reason, you need assistance during the audition, a monitor will be seated outside the audition room, Please leave to speak with the monitor regarding your question. It's that simple. ‘You will receive your audition date and time in a separate email; ALL INQUIRIES ABOUT THIS TIME MUST BE DIRECTED TO Kevin Allen (our Orchestra Manager), as none of us listening should know of your audition time.
