POTENTIAL OF MICROHIDRO POWER PLANT FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

Abstract :

Electrical energy has a very important role in efforts to improve the quality of life and economic growth in
Indonesia. The limited supply of electricity is one of the obstacles in community development and development,
especially in rural areas. In general, in mountainous areas there is a large potential for water energy. Manyaran is
one of the sub-districts in Wonogiri that has this potential. Some regions still have limited access to electricity
from the center of city. Micro hydro power plants are one of the renewable, efficient, practical, and
environmentally friendly electrical energy plants. Currently the energy of electricity in the village of Karanglor
cannot be fully enjoyed by all Karanglor villagers, this is still found in several houses that have not subscribed to
the PLN electricity, costs are the main factor complained by the community. If you see the abundance of water in
Karanglor village throughout the year, you need to study the potential of water to build a micro hydro power plant
(PLTMh). Therefore, this study aims to conduct a MHP feasibility study. The method of this study consists of
several stages, namely a site survey to collect primary data from local residents. The next stage is measuring water
discharge by measuring water velocity, and measuring head, and the final stage is designing and analyzing the
potential capacity of the MHP that can be built. The results of the survey obtained during the feasibility study of
MHP in Karanglor village, Manyaran Subdistrict, Wonogiri Regency obtained results accordingly, the location has
the potential to be built in a micro hydro power plant (PLTMh). The potential is able to produce power with a
capacity of 1 x 20 Kw. MHP is designed using Crossflow and Induction Generator with a capacity of 25 Kw.
