Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010



REPUBLIC ACT 9994
An act granting additional benefits and privileges to senior citizens, further
amending republic act no. 7432, as amended, otherwise known as “an act to
maximize the contribution of senior citizens to nation building, grant
benefits and special privileges and for other purposes”

Anu-ano ang mga benefits kag privileges bilang isang senior citizen?

• twenty percent (20%) discount and exemption from the value -added tax (VAT)

• 20% discount on fare for land (jeepneys, buses, taxis, shuttle services, MRT, LRT,
PNR,) sea shipping vessel and domestic transport services

• minimum of 5% discount on water and electric bills registered in the name of the
senior citizen residing therein

• “Senior citizens who have the capacity and desire to work, or be re-employed,
shall be provided information and matching services to enable them to be
productive members of society

• 5% off the retail prices of the basic necessities and prime commodities

• provision of express lanes for them in all commercial and government


establishments.

Eligibility
Sin-o ang pwede mag apply bilang senior citizen?

✔ Must be a Filipino citizen who is a resident of the Philippines


✔ Must be 60 years old or above.
✔ May apply to senior citizen with dual citizenship provided that they prove their
Filipino citizenship and have at least 6 months residency in the Philippines.

Procedure
Pa-ano mag apply bilang senior citizen?

To apply for a Senior Citizen ID Card please follow these steps:

1. Prepare the requirements:

• Your recent 1’ x 1’ ID photographs


• Your birth certificate
• A copy of any of your ID documents:
• Voter’s ID (Comelec)
• Driver’s license
• NBI Clearance
• Police Clearance
• Old Residence Certificate
• Postal ID or any combination of identification documents
confirming your name, date of birth and present address.
2. Apply for Senior Citizen ID Card
Please visit your Municipal’s Office of the Senior Citizen Affair and let someone
accompany you as you need to fill up some forms. Present the required documents and
the person-in-charge will assists you in filing out the application form with your basic
information and signature.

❗ No required fees
❗ Validity starts from the time you get your senior citizen ID.

• According to the World Health Organization, populations around the world are
aging rapidly. From 2000 to 2050, the proportion of the world’s population aged 60
years and above will double from about 11% to 22%. The absolute number of
people aged 60 years or over is projected to increase from 900 million in 2015 to
1400 million by 2030 and 2100 million by 2050.
• Based on the recent population estimate of the University of the Philippines
Population Institute, Diliman, Quezon City, senior citizen aged 60 and over is about
7,548,769 or 7.5% of the 2017 Philippine population.
