reader will con nue to read the ar cle or not. A good cap on makes the reader want to know more.

The Task:
Look at 15 cap ons in news ar cles from a variety of sources and rate them on a scale of 1‐4 with 4 being excep onally
good and 1 being very weak based on the following:

❶ Does it grab your a en on? How?

❷ Does the cap on support the picture/photo (if provided) and tell you more about it by making you understand it?

❸ Does it make you want to know more? Why or why not?

❹ Could it be improved? Why or why not?

Look at the following photos and write a cap on that: grabs the a en on of the reader, supports the photo and
provides a quick understanding of the ar cle, yet makes the reader want to con nue to read the ar cle. When you look at
the cap on and the photo, ask yourself, what else do you find yourself wan ng to know.
