ABSTRACT

This proposal pertains to the improvement of the Hydraulic Ram Pump pertaining
the use of Filling Object to the Pressure Chamber to ensure that air in the chamber is
not lost thus preventing the water logging of the Pressure Chamber as well as
increasing the pressure inside the chamber to deliver the water to greater elevations
compared to a standard Ram Pump. The Filling Object serves as a cheap alternative to
Snifter Valves and Diaphragms inside the Pressure Chamber since the Filling Object is
easy to install and requires minimum maintenance. This proposal aims gather data with
existing filling objects in order to build the proper filling material that meets the
specifications of the Pressure Chamber of the Ram Pump.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Filling Object - An object to be filled inside the Pressure Chamber as an alternative to

Snifter Valves and Diaphragms

Snifter Valve - A valve that allows air in or out. Used for supplying adequate air in the
pressure chamber in each cycle

Diaphragm - An element in the Ram Pump pressure chamber that maintains air in the
chamber

TENNIS AND RACQUET BALL

Will serve as a standin for the possible Filling object to be made. The pressure
inside the tennis ball is 26.7 psi or 1.82 atm and a volume of 169.03 cm^3 or 10.31 in^3.
The pressure inside the tennis ball is 12 psi or 0.82 atm and a volume of 5.96 in^3
