Let's define some concepts. According to chapter 2, 2.
2: What is the difference
between error and mistake? In your experience, what do you do when recognising them in your students? According to the text, a mistake is a kind of mistake slip in the mother tongue. A learner or a native speaker makes a mistake when he or she says something incorrectly but he or she knows the correct form and correct it. On the other hand, an error cannot be self-corrected, it means that student does not know the correct form. In class most of the time when they make a mistake and he or she corrected it, I reinforce the correct answer by clarifying the correct one. On the other hand, when an error it is presented and the student cannot correct it by him or herself, I tend to use correction drills making emphasis on the error by saying the correct form of the utterance.
