Classroom Learning Profile based on observations and data

Culture -The students in my 5th grade classroom represent a variety of

cultures: American, African American, and Asian.
-Schoolwide and in my classroom, the students come from a
range of socioeconomic status. Over half of the students qualify
for free or reduced breakfast or lunch.
-The neighborhood my school is in seems to be low-middle class,
and surrounded by relatively low crime rates, according to
crimemapper.com

Race & Ethnicity -My class is composed of 21 students: 76% are Caucasian, 19%
African American and 5% Asian.
-Schoolwide, the majority of the students are Caucasian.
-I have noticed that although the majority of the students are
Caucasian, the classrooms are fairly diverse
-It seems that the majority of the staff is Caucasian.

Social Systems- -Based off of my observations, families play a huge role in the
Peers & Family school community.
-Each morning, preschool parents are required to escort their
student into the school.
-Each teacher is required to send home a parent note at the
beginning of each week, alerting families what goes on in the
classroom weekly.
-Along with weekly letters home, my teacher requires parent
signatures on reading logs.
-In mid-September, the school planned a day for “Grand Friends”
to come to the school to learn more about the community and to
be able to work with the students in their classrooms.
-Each family meets with their student’s teacher before the start of
the school year.
Moral, Spiritual, -My school provides a Christ-centered education by incorporating
and Faith faith into everyday lessons.
Development -My school’s mission is committed to inspiring the minds and
hearts of our students; equipping them to embrace cultural,
economic, and racial diversity; and empowering them to love and
serve in community
-Every Wednesday morning, the students gather for a 30-60
minute time period of worship.

Attention & -Students are seated in groups of 4 which enables them to

Memory collaborate during lessons and activities.
-During read aloud or other designated activities, students are
able to choose where they will sit to listen best.
-When students are required to sit and listen to the teacher read
aloud, they have the option to draw quietly and independently if
that would help them listen better.
-Most students are able to pay attention and focus on the task at
hand, with occasional reminders to keep them on track.

Language -Each student in my classroom has a high level of English

proficiency.
-African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is also frequently
used amongst the African American students in my 5th grade
classroom.
-Students are required to read at home--some students read a
significant amount more than others, but each student is able to
read independently and comprehend what they’re reading about.

Motor & -Student’s fine motor abilities seem to be represented in their

Spatial/Sequential penmanship. Every student’s writing, for the most part, is clear
Ordering and easy to read.
-Student’s workspaces are organized and not cluttered.
-As well as workspaces, students are advised to keep their lockers
clean too, and have the option to stay in from recess to assure that
space is clean.
-I’ve observed each student be very active while out on the
playground. Some activities that seem to be popular amongst
students are running, playing ball, and swimming.
Higher Order -Students are encouraged to “resolve their own conflicts” when
Thinking conflicts arise between each student.
-Students are also encouraged to “make a better choice” when the
teacher notices a student not paying attention and distracted
from the assigned activity.
-Students are encouraged to explain their reasoning, summarize
what they just read, and apply what they learned to their own
lives.
-Students are given ample amount of time to think about their
answers before having to respond.

Ability & Disability -There are no students, to my knowledge, in our classroom with
any physical disabilities.
-There are students who get pulled out for advanced math and
have the opportunity to attend the 6th grade class during their
math time.
-There are students who get pulled out who need extra help with
math or reading comprehension.
-There are students who are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD in
my classroom-all of which take prescribed medication to aid their
focus and learning.
-Some students struggle with unstable home lives, and sometimes
bring their frustration with them to school.
