HEADFRAME CONSTANT PRESSURE WATER PHASE 2 – NO 2 SHAFT DESIGN
BOOSTER PUMP SET SPECIFICATION

1.0 INTRODUCTION
This specification covers the minimum requirements for the supply of a constant
pressure water booster pump set and associated equipment which will be installed
on elevation EL. -4.100m of the Oyu Tolgoi Shaft No 2 headframe.

The Oyu Tolgoi mine complex is situated 550 km South of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s
capital, in the aimag (Province) of Ömnögovi, the South Gobi region of Mongolia
which forms the border with China.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of work includes the labour and materials for design, manufacture,
corrosion protection, quality inspection, testing and supply as well as the
submission of supporting documentation for the constant pressure water booster
pump.

This scope of work is for the complete supply of new equipment and unless
explicitly stated under the exclusions, the Owner will hold the Supplier responsible
for furnishing all the equipment as detailed in this document.

The above work will comply with the requirements of the latest version and
addenda of the following publications:-
 Mongolian occupational safety and health regulations for underground
mining
 Ontario Canada occupational health and safety act, RRO 1990,
Regulation 854 – Mines and mining plants

The most onerous statutory requirements will take precedence. Where materials
and workmanship are not specified herein, or covered by recognized standards, the
highest quality consistent with normal practice in the industry will be adhered to.

Compliance with this specification does not alleviate the Supplier of the
responsibility for furnishing the domestic constant pressure water booster pump
and the relevant associated accessories of adequate design suited to meet
operating requirements at the specified service conditions. Nor does it relieve the
Supplier of the responsibility of furnishing the domestic water booster pump
assembled and prepared for shipment in a professional manner.

Irrespective of any statements to the contrary in this specification, the Supplier will
satisfy himself that the equipment selected will be capable of fulfilling the duty as
specified.

3.0 DUTY DESCRIPTION

The Oyu Tolgoi Shaft No 2 will be supplied with Raw water from the utilidor

Document No 1118-55-SPE-3017 Rev E Page 4 of 11

HEADFRAME CONSTANT PRESSURE WATER PHASE 2 – NO 2 SHAFT DESIGN
BOOSTER PUMP SET SPECIFICATION

From the utilidor tie-in point water is then supplied to the washrooms in the
following areas:-
 Service Hoist deck washroom (EL +63.500m)
 Men’s South collar house washroom (EL. 0.000m)
 Women’s South collar house washroom (EL. 0.000m)
The pressure from the utilidor tie-in point is sufficient to provide domestic water to
the washrooms located on Collar level (EL. 0.000m).

In order to provide water to the washroom located on the Service Hoist deck, a
constant pressure booster pump set will be installed on elevation EL. -4.100m in
the South/West perimeter of the headframe.

The constant pressure booster pump will be required to pump water to the Service
Hoist deck washroom and regulate the line pressure to ensure that the fittings are
not exposed to excessive pressure.

4.0 SCOPE SUPPLY

The scope of supply will be for a complete skid mounted pump set consisting of the
following major components:-
 Two (2) domestic water booster pumps (one duty and fully installed
standby)
 One (1) diaphragm pressure tank
 One (1) mounting base frame/skid (both pumps mounted on the single
skid)
 One (1) motor control center (MCC) complete with indicator, push
buttons, lockouts, and control unit.

4.1 Inclusions
In addition to the items listed in Section 4.0, the supply will include but not be
limited to the following items:-
 Selection of the appropriate pump and motor set to satisfy the require
duty as specified
 Fabrication and supply mounting base frame
 Pump and motor couplings and coupling guards
 Isolation valves and non-return valves local to the pump set
 Pressure indicators and pressure transmitters

Document No 1118-55-SPE-3017 Rev E Page 5 of 11

 Interlinked piping, piping manifold (suction and delivery), mating flanges

(where applicable), gaskets and flange bolts
 Foundation holding down bolts complete with washers, nuts, packers and
shims for all pumps and motors
 Fixing bolts for all equipment mounted to the base frame complete with
washers, nuts, packers and shims for all pumps and motors
 Electrical and instrumentation wiring local to the pump set
 Performance testing
 Special equipment required for the commissioning of the pump set after
installation (if applicable)

4.2 Exclusions
The following items are not included in this scope and will be supplied by the buyer
or others:-
 Field erection labour and supervision
 Civil works
 Lubricants with the exception of those required for shop assembly and
testing

5.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

The equipment and materials will be of heavy duty construction as applicable to
mining industry applications with a nominal project design life of 20 years, based on
24 hour per day, 365 days per year operation.

The duty requirement for the domestic water booster pump set has been included
in Error! Reference source not found. of this document.

5.1 Pumps and Pump Configuration

The constant pressure water booster pump set will consist of two (2) pumps
mounted on a common base frame. The motors driving the pumps will be the
directly coupled type and will also be mounted on the common base frame.

The pump casing will be stainless steel and no other material will be considered
due to the life expectancy of the pumps.

The pump set will be configured duty/standy operation. The pumps set will have a
common suction and discharge manifold equipped with the required valves and
fittings to ensure the operation of the system as specified.

BOOSTER PUMP SET SPECIFICATION

5.2 Piping and Fittings

The pump set will be supplied complete with interlinked piping on the suction and
discharge end of the pump.

As far as practically possible the piping and associated fittings will be supplied in
accordance with line class specification G1A as indicated in specification SP-50-
001.

The Supplier will need to make provision in his design to mate the pump set suction
and delivery manifold to the flange of the rubber bellows. These will be 50 NB Class
150 ANSI B16.5 A105 flanges.

5.3 Pressure Accumulator

The pump set will be supplied complete with a pressure accumulator unit. The
pressure accumulator will ensure that the pump does not operate continuously.

The pump set will charge the accumulator to a pre-set pressure. Once the pre-set
pressure is reached, the pump will switch off. The accumulator will retain pressure
in the line.

The line pressure will reduce with the use of water in the washroom and the pump
set will be required to switch on when the pressure accumulator reaches the
minimum pre-set pressure.

The discharge pressure of the accumulator should be controlled by the unit. The
maximum accumulator charge pressure will be limited to 1034 kPa as this is the
limiting design pressure for the pipe line class G1A.

5.4 Electrical Motor

Electrical motor will be in accordance with the requirements as set out in
specification SP-65-008 as referenced in Section 8.0 of this document.

5.5 Motor Control Centre

The control panel IP rating will be in accordance with the requirements as set out in
specification SP-65-016 referenced in Section 8.0 of this document.

5.6 Noise Levels

The noise levels emitted by the pump set during operation will be restricted to 85dB
when measured at a distance of 1 m from the pump set measured in any direction.

This is in accordance with the requirements as set out in specification SP-55-001

referenced in Section 8.0 of this document.

5.7 Nameplates
As far as practically possible, each proprietary item is to be fitted with a stainless
steel name plate. As a minimum, the name plate will be engraved in English and
Mongolian and contain the required information as referenced in Section 2.3 of
specification SP-55-001.
5.8 Lifting and Handling Requirements
