DESCRIPTION OF THE ANDES CONDOR

It is a bird whose flight reaches more than 5500 meters high. The color of its feathers is bluish
black and has a white feather choker around the base of the neck. The head has no feathers. Its legs
are quite large, with strong and sharp claws with which it tears its prey

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT OF THE CONDOR OF THE ANDES


It is present in the mountain ranges of the Andes of South America in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Colombia,
Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina.

REPRODUCTION OF THE ANDES CONDOR


It has only one partner. The female lays only one egg that both parents take turns caring for a period
of two months. When the chick leaves the egg, the parents provide the necessary care up to two years.

THREATS OF THE CONDOR OF THE ANDES


It is classified as “Near Threatened” by the red list of the International Union for the Conservation
of Nature (IUCN). Attempts are made with education campaigns to prevent hunting and captive breeding
programs.
