Using a smaller sample size may invalidate the assigned value and/or uncertainty shown on the certificate of analysis, Helpful Hints: ‘+ This standard has been prepared as a concentrate and mustbe diluted prior to analysis. * As the USEPA Criteria Document requires that cyanide be present in a complex form, the diluted standard must be analyzed for total cyanide * This standard should be analyzed as soon as possible after the concentrate is diluted, Instructions: 1, Add 100-200 mL of deionized water and approximately 1 to 2 mL. of 50% sodium hydroxide to a clean 1000 tal class A volumetric flask. Shake the Cyanide & Phenol vial prior to opening. Using a clean, dry, class A pipet, volumettically pipet 5.0 mL. of the concentrate into the 1000 mL volumetric flask. Dilute the flask to final volume with deionized water. Cap the flask and mix well. Immediately analyze the diluted sample by your normal procedures. Report your results as mg/L forthe diluted sample.
