SLAVISH MIND

It's the strangest thing which I observed in our country that for internal problem and crisis we
always seek outside world’s opinion and suggestions. Be it case of Dadri lynching or be in now
case of JNU crackdown our so called intellectuals have find themselves as helpless creature to
create right atmosphere to debate and solve problem by themselves. I always feel the way our
intellectual class react to the unpleasant events happening in our country they are spineless and
pathetic in their way. They are intellectually incompetent and corrupt to even understand basic
essence of any problem and instead showing some mental and intellectual guts they blow out the
problem out of proportion and create a sense of hysteria which is unmanageable and leading
country to anarchy.
Even though I have just cited just two examples and that also from present government's tenure
which might appear that I am writing in favor of this present regime. So let’s go back in past bit
more and take even Anna Hazare movement (for Lokpal and against scams of UPA ministers)
which may have helped NDA to set tone against that time UPA government then also I find same
intelligentsia helpless and immature to even understand the gravity of that movement and its
impact on country. At that time also support and the opposition was so much directionless. What
is called constructive support or criticism was lacking at that time and even today? What we can
observe that intellectual leaning toward their ideologies goes against or for the emerging crises as
suiting their loyalties. Today if I ask in term JNU crisis, the right wing will go in favor of JNU
crackdown and left will go in against; and in showing their loyalties they go to such extent that
not sham their own ideology but sometimes even nation as a whole. Even someone try to engage
in constructive talk with people of any of these ideologies which include ideas both in favor and
against of a certain situation it will more be just wastage of time and energy. This brainwashing
and polarization in terms of ideologies hit hard on the concept of India. Custodian of these
ideologies be it academia or politicians, love to lit the fire and enjoy the burning of devoted
workers, volunteers and now student also in the form of meaningless protest against each other,
a war of words which sometimes stoop to such a level of disgracefulness that even common
mass can't digest. Due to all these fruitless and meaningless activity, not only country and mass
suffer but also the energy and skills of the supports get wasted which if deviated in the right
direction could have done wonders. It becomes very difficult to realize when supports of
particular ideologies become a puppet in the hand of few people who called themselves as the
flag bearer of their respected wings.
If we see in a balanced way in case of JNU crisis, at a time when anti-India slogan is
condemnable and action needed to be taken against this certain section of students but at same
time booking students under sedition act is equally disturbing and unethical act. I wish some our
great intellectual and politicians could have taken this balanced approach it might have set the
right tone for Indian democracy. In the name of freedom of speech, we can’t write and speak
things which cross all limit of morality and decency. We can criticize the government and its
working as that is our right but against a nation it is unwanted. In the same way, we have to be
extremely responsible while deciding someone's patriotism toward the country. Sometimes a
situation arises when people knowingly and unknowingly say things which might not be correct
in any sense but that does not give state right to give extreme punishment as it may lead to more
radicalization and end even the slimmest chance of correction. When at one side ignoring the
problem is wrong at that time going all gone blazing to resolve the problems is also unwanted. A
balanced approach is what we needed at times of crisis.
But the problem arises here that how and who decide and define crisis. Observing our so-called
intelligence class and their responses for a common man it is not difficult to understand after a
little research that most of these erupting crises are fabricated and motivated at some time and
undermined other times. For example, any case of corruption be from any side are mostly
undermined and diminished until and unless losses become humongous like 2G scams, coal
allocation scam or now recent Lalit modi scandal. Even when these come in the front row after
the little debate they are brushed away as if nothing happened and that’s why influential culprit
gets away easily. But when crises arise due intellectual differences these so called intellectuals
put their armor and join their cavalry to fight an ideological war and since Indian intelligentsia
class had been dominated by liberal and left minded academicians and media houses the battle
win is more in their favor. So regardless who win and lose generally masses in general and
India, in particular, suffer badly and we citizen always left in a situation and in a dilemma that
what to support or what to not.
Why I titled my this piece writing as “Slavish Mindset” is that I find that regardless of our
independence on 15 August 1947 our way of thinking still in bondages of slavery. At one side
right-wing followers are in bondages of pride and appreciation of their past culture’s
achievements and richness and at other side left wing followers & liberals are in bondages of
shame and guilt of wrong doing and practices of our past culture. This fight of guilt and pride
have started long ago during British domination era and still going on this date with no definitive
result to date. Even people from both wings know and understand but knowingly ignore that both
good and bad attach to a civilization and in the course of time corrections and malpractices both
emerges and then comes times we have to accept the good and negate the wrong and establish a
new order. But in our case during the process of formation of the Indian state in modern times,
we still fighting to decide what to keep and what not to keep from our past, what to appreciate
and what to condemned and who to be the torch bearer of the masses and who to change or
perish. The situation now is this that one side is appreciating and urging everything to be
accepted regardless be it good or bad in present time and the other side wants to erase everything
from the past regardless of their utility and create a new order. In normal thought process, we can
understand that both thinkings are absurd and hilarious in all way and cannot be accepted in any
form. Here what we need to have a juxtaposition where what good for Indian state have to be
decided collectively by intellectuals from all ideologies or it shall be too late when one of the
wings in their radical form take over the state and decide state affair with their whims and
fancies.
At last, I want to say it’s easy to quote lines and saying from famous thinkers across the globe
but it’s very difficult to create a thought process of our own. In India I see intellectuals as
followers of different ideologies developed in western world but when it comes to creating new
one of their own I still have to see that genuine approach and that's why in name of our original
thought process we just have basically one dominant ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and that to
have lost its relevance in mimicry and blind modeling & restructuring of western developed
ideology. I have seen and read how our academia often quoting ideas and concept from other
western thinkers in the present scenario of our country and try to justify their point, I hope one
day they may quote and debate in our own original ideas which better suite and reflect India and
its unique cultural diversity.
