2.6 Active and Passive Voice (K.D. 4.2.1)

Active voice definition :

Generally, we tend to use the active voice – one of the two voices of verbs (active and
passive voice). When the verb of a sentence is in the active voice, the subject performs the action
denoted by the verb.

Active voice examples :

 She would type the letters.

 I visited my uncle last week.
Passive voice definition :

The passive voice is a grammatical voice of verb where what would be the object of a
corresponding active sentence becomes the subject of a sentence in the passive voice. The passive
voice is formed with the appropriate tense of the verb to be + past participle.

Passive voice is a form af sentence in which the subject the sentence receives action , not
taking action. Unlike active voice that focuses on the part doing action ( doer of action), this
form is more focused on the part or object that receives the result of an action .

Passive examples :

 The letters would be typed by her.

 My uncle was visited by me last week.
There are two basic rules for converting sentences from active voice into passive voice, which are
common for all tenses :

a) The places of subject and object will be interchanged in the sentence

sometimes forgets the formula.

all the material above is very useful for our future, we must understand it. especially on the
Application Letter and C.V. we will definitely make it in the future to register a job.

Mind map material is also important to organize our concept maps so they are easy to
remember and understand.

Passive voice material is also important to increase our knowledge if we go to school abroad
