Solid waste is a product of wasteful human socioeconomic activities and waste

management is one of the major problems faced by most cities in developing countries. Population

growth, socioeconomic improvement and lifestyle changes as well as increasing domestic,

business and factory waste are the major factors in increasing solid waste. Solid waste management

is a global issues as we know. For example, in heavily populated Chinese Republic has undertaken

initiatives to develop solid waste reduction projects such as the introduction of packaging act,

carbon emission reduction program, composting and more. The high cost of waste management

range from collection to transportation of waste to waste landfill. I think waste management in my

community is quite good because they have their own trash bin and also have a schedule to pick

up the trash. Waste management company usually come once a week for three times on Monday,

Wednesday and Friday. They carry out their duties with dedication and satisfaction even though

there are something that still need to be improved such as the problems of putting back the trash

bin into the right place. The situation is troubling some communities because they need to find

back the trash bin and the worst thing can lead to the community of losing their trash bin and have

to buy more. Although this situation is not always happen, it needs to be improved in the future to

avoid any increasing of cost.

I think the community needs a recycle bins because most of communities always mix all

types of rubbish together in one plastic. This situation can be difficult for waste management

company and it also not a proper way and view. The recycle bin allows the communities to separate

recycle waste from non-recycle waste. Recyclable waste should be sorted according to the specific

category and communities should clean it first if it is too dirty. This is to avoid any harmful diseases

or increasing of cost. The community also should have knowledge and civic awareness in waste

management to avoid any problem and to easy the waste management.

There are also local communities with high civic awareness of this recycling practices.

There are some communities used to collect recyclable materials and sell them at recycle center.

In addition, there are also vans and recycling trucks that come to their home to buy recyclable

items from them such as papers, books, cans and empty bottles. Some of communities also sent

the recyclable materials such as clothes and books to the needy people such as orphanage and old

folk’s home.

I hope that communities should raise civic awareness so that waste management can run

smoothly and at the same time it can prevent pollution and diseases around it. Communities should

separate the type of waste by category and tie all the waste in a proper plastic bag so that the waste

does not fall out. I also hope that waste management company will provide recycling bins that can

provide a financial return to communities who put the recycle item in it. This situation will increase

community motivation in recycling waste.
