Homework Expectations

As many of you may know, we are quickly approaching the ELA State Tests that will take place
March 25-26. The Math State Test will take place on April 22-23. Use your thick READY
booklets for ELA and Math to complete your homework assignments. These books are to
remain home for the duration of Test Preparation. Each night, you will be assigned specific
pages regarding the skill learned in class. Students are required to complete the set of
pages at home and then (carefully) rip out pages/ staple for submission.

● Graphic organizers in the READY book are great tools for scaffolding students’
thinking for reading and writing. However, these organizers are not required and do
not need to be completed.
● It is vitally important to acknowledge that testing season can bring with it a great deal
of anxiety for our students. Below are some ways that students, parents/guardians
and teachers can work together to help kids who are overly anxious about testing.

How Students Can Alleviate Test Anxiety:

○ Share your feelings of anxiety with parents/guardians and teachers.

○ Think of the test as an opportunity to show what you know.
○ Review homework and materials that pertain to test topics.
○ Relax, breathe deeply and stay focused on the test.

How Parents/Guardians Can Alleviate Test Anxiety:

○ Discuss the test openly and in a positive way.

○ Have realistic expectations of your child’s performance while encouraging his or
her best efforts.
○ Emphasize that the test is only one measure of academic performance.
○ Emphasize that test scores do not determine a person’s worth.
○ Help your child identify times he or she were anxious or faced challenges that
had positive results.
