The Life We Never Wanted

A year have passed again yet our country still encounters the problem that had been lurking
behind the shadows for a long time. The Philippines have always been facing poverty, a problem
which led every Filipino to their worst nightmares.
Thousands of Filipino families suffers from poverty. Day by day, they have been struggling
to survive, looking everywhere for food just to fill their empty stomachs. Instead of going to school
some children we’re force by themselves to work at a very young age because even their parent
can’t sometimes satisfy their family needs alone and don’t have enough financial support to pay
for the school. According to the Department of Education (DepEd) there are about 3.6 million out
of school youth in the year 2017 and the main reason is poverty. Also some youth are involve in
crimes just to find money in a faster yet dangerous way. This includes stealing, gambling, sex
trafficking and even killing innocent people for money. In urban areas like the NCR (National
Capital Region) almost everywhere you can see homeless people living on the streets and carrying
their child while begging for everyone that pass near them for help. There are also some of our
fellow Pinoys especially the old ones who are suffering from different diseases and tend to carry
the pain they have because they can’t afford to go for medical check-ups and sometimes other
hospitals are asking huge amounts of money to pay for their treatment. Poverty in our country also
made Filipino to go abroad, to find jobs and earn money to support their family. OFWs we’re
working hard even if they are away from their love ones because they believe that it is the only
way to meet the terms that their family needs.
Poverty in the Philippines have been a chain tied and locked to our feet that prevent us
from having the successful life we always have been dreaming of but what made us a true Filipino
is that even in scenarios like this we still have a never ending faith that someday we will soon find
the key to set us free from this chains.
