CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

INTRODUCTION

Rationale of the Study

PowerPoint Presentations are a way of attracting audience towards a

person’s views and arguments. The most popular uses of power point

presentations are in modern days learning, corporate training sessions, business

and marketing meetings, and sales gatherings. Even the normal teaching or

training becomes interactive by just using presentations in lectures.

With the advent of technology, the team comes up in designing an

enhanced PowerPoint controller. PowerPoint presentations consist of a number

of individual pages or "slides". The "slide" analogy is a reference to the slide

projector (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_projector). Slides may contain text,

graphics, sound, movies, and other objects, which may be arranged freely. This

project aims to control the slides in the presentation. This project also meets the

trend of technology nowadays because of its wireless feature. Most of the

gadgets and systems are using wireless technology now and this project

complements with it.

For instance, in a business meeting, top executives and manager

(marketing and sales) use PowerPoint presentation as a powerful tool to train

3
their juniors or associates to give them better, interactive and more effective

training. It is always beneficial and less time consuming for corporate trainers, if

they use these tools in their sessions, it generates more results. It will be less

hassle for the presenter to control the slides because with just a hand wave, the

slides can be managed. Moreover, it can be considered as an upgrading tool for

an establishment or organization.

Another example is when a student presents a school report designated to

him by his instructor; it will be a common means to present it using the

PowerPoint presentation. In the same manner, the student will love to present it

extraordinarily because it is in the mentality of the student that the way he

presents his school report greatly affects the grade that he will get from his

instructor. With the use of the Wave Detecting PowerPoint Controller, the

student’s aim can be achieved. He can present his report with much confidence

and creativity because of distinct designs and animations he can apply in his

PowerPoint presentation. Moreover, his classmates will be much attentive

listening to his report because his art in presenting using his hand gestures will

be capturing.

Theoretical Background

Spectrum Sensors & Controls accelerometers employ polysilicon surfaced

micro-machined (MEMS) sensors, each capable of measuring positive and

negative acceleration along one axis. The sensor element functions on the

principle of differential capacitance. Acceleration causes displacement of a

silicon structure resulting in a change in capacitance. A circuit, using standard

CMOS manufacturing process, detects and transforms changes in capacitance

into an analog output voltage, which is proportional to acceleration. The sense

element design utilizes common mode cancellation to decrease errors from

process variation and environmental stress.

Wireless technology appears very similar to wired technology. You have a

piece of hardware, a method of transmission, and connections on both ends that

transform data from human-intelligible to transportable and back. The methods of

connection and ranges of service available vary in wireless technology just as

they do in wired technology. Home telephones with a wireless handset have a

more limited range than cellular phones; infrared transmissions have a more

limited range than radio-wave (including microwave) transmissions. Different

types of wireless solutions can communicate ten feet, ten miles, or with a satellite

in orbit.

5
The theory of accelerometer and wireless technology contributes to the

design and development of the project in a way that the system uses the

accelerometer sensor and applies wireless technology.

RF refers to radio frequency, the mode of communication for wireless

technologies of all kinds, including cordless phones, radar, ham radio, GPS, and

radio and television broadcasts. RF technology is so much a part of our lives we

scarcely notice it for its ubiquity. From baby monitors to cell phones, Bluetooth®

to remote control toys, RF waves are all around us. RF waves are

electromagnetic waves which propagate at the speed of light, or 186,000 miles

per second (300,000 km/s). The frequencies of RF waves, however, are slower

than those of visible light, making RF waves invisible to the human eye.

THE PROBLEM

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to enhance the existing PowerPoint controller for a more

fascinating way of showing a PowerPoint presentation conforming to the trend of

technology.

Furthermore, the study aims to answer the following questions:

1. What is the current design of the PowerPoint controller?

2. What are the problems encountered in the use of the present

PowerPoint controller?

3. What improvements can be designed to enhanced the present

PowerPoint controller?

Significance of the Study

The Wave Detecting PowerPoint Controller is for the schools, factories or

companies which generate PowerPoint presentations on business proposals,

reports and etc. This serves as an enhancement of many existing PowerPoint

controllers. This will create a more fascinating way of presenting a PowerPoint

presentation and this will contibute to the arising technology because of its

wireless feature. Furthermore, it is an upgrading tool for an establishment or

organization because most of the gadgets and systems are using wireless

technology now and this project complements with it.

circuits and prototypes.

Flowchart

A diagram representing the logical sequence in which a combination of

steps or operation is to be perform.

PIC

a highly integrated chip contains all the components comprising a

controller.

Program Flowchart

Describes graphically in detail the logical operation and steps with in a

program and the sequence in which these steps are to be executed to the
transformation of data to produce the needed output.
