In 2018, Zebra Medical Vision found itself in a race with its


competitors to perfect the algorithms that produce diagnoses from
digitized radiology scans and to create a new market in the “Medical
Machine Learning Industry.” How did Zebra become a leading player in
this space? In other words, what are Zebra’s strengths in terms of
technological innovation?
① I think regional policy is one of Zebra’s strengths, since its
connections to the Israeli healthcare system gave it access to
data that was difficult for American startups to obtain. Data
from the U.S. healthcare system was often only available to non-
profit researchers.
② Zebra is a technology driven company and used advanced technology
appropriately. It combined AI and machine learning with medical
diagnoses. Machine learning can save time both for company
employees and for doctors.
2. The case describes several possible customers and their potential use
cases with Zebra’s technologies. In developed countries, these
customers include, but not limited to: doctors and radiologists who may
benefit from second opinions, nurses screening of elderly patients for
fractures, and military field hospitals. Choose one customer segment
that you find interesting. Describe its jobs-to-be-done and the current
process to get the job done. What are the additional values Zebra can
provide to the customer? What are the costs that the customer needs to
pay to integrate Zebra’s product in its workflow?
① I want to choose elderly patients segment.
② As the aging society became a problem to government, the
population of elder people became bigger and bigger. So it is
really important for Zebra to focus on this sector.
③ Current: Elder patients go to see doctors and doctors will take
them to have a CT before giving medical advice and diagnoses;

Jobs-to-be-done:

a. When patients got their CT progress done, the system can


compare this result to historical pictures stored in
database and gives advice to doctor if they are similar
b. The system can read patient’s personal medical history
and suggests doctor that patient is allergic to some types
of medicine.
④ Zebra’s biggest strength is that the company can use data mining
technology to predict patient’s future diseases by doing machine
learning in datastore

choose Zebra
3. To serve the customer you described in 2), where should Zebra orient
its development over the next three to five years? Assuming that Zebra
follows your suggestion, how confident are you about the future of
Zebra?
① Zebra should focus on machine learning and data mining technology

b. There is no other competitor uses same level technology in
the market. Maybe Zebra can take the lead.
