LESSON EXEMPLAR

Topic/Title Circulatory and Respiratory System

Grade Level Grade 9
Time Allotment 60 MINUTES
Learning Competencies/Objectives
At the end of the cycle, the students should be able to:
1. Compare and Differentiate the Circulatory and Respiratory System.
ELICIT ( 5 mins ) MATERIALS
Game Strategy: “Sa Akin Ka!Sayo Ako!” 2 Flackcards A and B
Ask learners to answer questions and go A for Circulatory System
to the designated area. B for Respiratory System

Classify the following organ as to

Circulatory or Respiratory System
a. heart g. RBC
b. lungs h. Vena cava
c. blood vessels i . alveoli
d. lungs j. trachea
e. mitral valve
f. diaphragm

ENGAGE ( 5 mins )
A. Let learners view a video clip “ What DLP and laptop / LED tv
is a Pace Maker and How does it work” https://www.youtube.com/watch
Guide Question:
1. What is the function of the
Pacemaker?
2. How it is different with the human
Heart?
B. Let learners view a video clip of the
human lung and how it works.
Guide question:
1. How does a human lung work?
2. What substances are processed in
this organ?
EXPLORE ( 10 mins )
-Ask learners to do a human modeling Learners Module Lesson on Flow
on body’s transport system: Circulatory of Blood and Gas Exchange
and Respiratory System
Mechanics:
1. Divide students into two groups, one
for Circulatory and one for Respiratory
System
2. Each member in the group will play as
one organ of the body system and
others will play as oxygen and carbon
dioxide.
3. Organs are placed in the box and
student will pick one.
4. As the music play a student playing
the role of blood will walk through each
organ. Same thing goes with Carbon
dioxide and oxygen.

EXPLAIN ( 15 mins )

Ask Learners how the two body system

work together in transporting oxygen to
the different parts of the body

Socratic Method: Question and Answer

ELABORATE ( 15 mins )
Class Interaction: DLP and Laptop/ LED TV
To facilitate discussion the teacher Powerpoint Presentation
may use presentation on Similarities and
Differences of the Circulatory and
Respiratory System
- Ask learners to compare and
contrast based on function,
organs involved, and waste
products.

Key Points:
1. The Circulatory System is the body’s
transport system which pumps blood
around the body
2. Respiratory System takes oxygen in
and expel carbon dioxide
3. When deoxygenated enters the heart
and it is transported via pulmonary veins
to be oxygenated by the lungs
4. Both Systems involve oxygen for the
body to work.

EVALUATE ( 5 mins )

Play Space Decoder : Respiratory and Space Decoder Game

Circulatory System

EXTEND ( 5 mins )

Ask students to write story about an Paper, pen

oxygen atom as it travels through the
circulatory system and respiratory
system.
