39th Annual Dr. Lawrence R. Sutherland Wind Festival

3/18/18 through 3/21/2018

I had never really been to a big concert that involve so many middle high schooler and

high schooler. About weeks before the concert I got some information about it, but really didn't

think much of it cost me about $5 to get in as student. I talked with a friend of mine about the

Concert band in Fresno State and we all casually decided to go get tickets for it. Little did I know

what an spectacular time I would have. Yosia and myself arrived at the Fresno State College of

Arts and Humanities building. We arrived about half an hour early so the place was just starting

to fill up with High School student carries instruments. As I walked closer and closer to gate they

make us pay $2 for the program and told us we can sit whenever we want. I noticed inside the

hall above us where we are sitting all the Director of Band from all over High School and

Colleges from different State.

from Sunnyside High School Wind Symphony conductor by Michael Angel.

In my opinion throughout 7 Concert Band that I observed, concert from Sunnyside High

School Wind Symphony is best performance when they played Variations on Korean Folk Song

by John Barnes Chance. The piece starts with a slow tempo flute soloist and followed by tringle

with clarinet and flute section playing the melody. The next piece starts with fast tempo where a

combination music instrument of clarinet and trumpets and joined by the rest of the band. The

Larghetto piece start with soloist of flute with a slow tempo and become duet of flutes. The last
piece which is Allegro con brio is fast tempo where the trumpets leading with the rest of the

band. The piece start with fast tempo goes to slow tempo and ended with fast tempo.

At the end of my experience from the concert makes me feel uplifted, contented, and can

improve my mood that day. Listening to the music carries me through varies feelings, such as

happiness, excited, sad, and depressed.
