Pakwan Festival 2020

Guidelines, Mechanics and Criteria

1. The competition is open to all Bani Secondary Schools.

2. Participants must be bonafide students of the school they are representing. Violation of this rule means
disqualification in the competition.

3. There will be only one presentation to be performed at the Bani Municipal Plaza and should center on
pakwan as an authentic product of Bani. Performance must concentrate on marketing strategies.
Furthermore, performance must be devoid of any religious icon.

4. During the parade, contingents must dance in a progressive step in the two designated stations – in front
of the public market and in front of the municipal hall. Avoid stationary dance performance to prevent
delays.

5. All hand props shall be carried by the participants throughout the parade with a maximum of eight (8)
hand props per school must be used for the whole performance. Size for the hand props must be a
maximum of one (1) meter.

6. Presentation must be five (5) minutes (minimum) to eight (8) minutes (maximum) exclusive of set-up and
exit of props.
a. Violation to this rule means twenty (20) points deduction from the total score from each judge.
b. Timer starts at the first drum beat and ends at the last drum beat.

7. The composition of each contingent shall be within the minimum of forty (40) to a maximum of one
hundred fifty (150) participants including propsmen, soundmakers and instumentalists. The props men,
sound makers and instrumentalist are considered participants.

8. Contingents must use live music instruments of choice. Recorded music and electronic musical
instruments are not allowed.

9. Footwear must be used and consistent with the theme/motif.

10. The use of live animal sacrifices is strictly prohibited.

11. The use of flammable materials such as fire, fireworks or pyrotechnics as part of the performance is strictly
prohibited.

12. A five (5) point deduction (from each judge) shall be imposed against any contingent that violates rules
7, 9, 10 and 11.

13. Safety must be observed in the execution of presentation. Injury caused by dance routines shall be
borne by the contingent but basic medical service will be provided by the festival committee.

14. There will be one set of judges for the competition.

15. The decision of the judges is final, irrevocable and unappealable.

Criteria for Judging


1. Costumes
(Artistic choice of color and style, effective use of props relevant to the
Interpretation of theme) 20%
2. Theme and Concept
(Relevance to Pakwan product and marketing as interpreted in music, dance,
movement and artistic expression) 30%
3. Choreography
(Creativity and artistry of steps and formation, style and expression that
is relevant to the theme) 20%
4. Over- all Performance
(Precision and coordination, fluency, alignment, balance, focus,
Projection, rhythmic and spatial interest) 30%

Total: 100%
