2019-2020

Dear Teachers,
There's hardly anything new in this, it's all old medicine in a new bottle. However,
please do spend some time in reading this with total concentration. We assure you
that if you follow all these systematically and regularly, you will not have any problem
and will definitely have a peaceful and enjoyable academic year.
I GENERAL
1. All teachers are expected to report at least 5 minutes before the first bell. Courtesy
demands that if they are going to be late the HM is informed through the office, so that
the school activities are not affected in any way. Teachers having the first period may
go to their respective classes before the bell. Please find time to have breakfast at
home.
2. a] Please sign the Attendance Register before 9.00am.
b] By 9.00am the Attendance Register may be sent to Ms.Leelavati’s office in the Senior

5 minutes before the stipulated time. They are also responsible for the discipline in the
bus. Any problem may be discussed with the HM. Teachers who have been allotted
the duty of taking attendance in the school vehicles may kindly do this carefully as it
involves safety of children. Teachers who have been requested to travel in School
transport till the last stop, may kindly do so.
4. All teachers are expected to attend all the functions in the School.
5. Cell phones should not be used during class hours and meetings. Please do not
record any school activity, communication or discussions without the prior permission
of the management. The same applies for taking photographs or videos. Mobile
phones if brought are the concerned teacher’s responsibility so please keep them in
your pockets or in your hand bags in silent mode, so that they are safe and also do not
disturb others.

6. Any problem in the school may please be discussed with the concerned HM .Problems
can be solved only through discussions. Gossiping and back biting do not help and
are to be discouraged by everyone.

7. Children may be advised to develop the habit of speaking softly. Before advising
students, teachers must set examples.

8. After every test/exam/assessment, please analyse the answers. Please find out the
aspects that they have not understood and re-teach it. If the concept is still not clear,
discuss with the concerned HOD on how to make it clearer and if things still don’t
improve, please request the HOD to teach the concept.

9. You are requested to finish the corrections of the assessment/test/exam answer

sheets within 6 days and submit the marks to both the HOD & the concerned Head.

10. Once you enter the School, you should not go out of the School campus within School
hours without the Principal’s permission.

II CLASS ROOM
1. While in the classroom,
a] Ensure that the students wish you and you wish them back, on entering and
before leaving.

b] Give time for the class to settle down initially.

c] Carry all the things that you would need and are expected to have with you, viz
Lesson Plan, Text, Chalk pieces, Maps, Instrument box, Marker pens, Duster,
etc. The left over chalk pieces should be brought back.
d] Ensure that the board is left clean for the next teacher. Courtesy demands it.
e] Do not sit while teaching, unless your health demands it and the HM has been
informed. Always maintain eye contact with all the children in the class in turns.
This helps in understanding them better. Please have zero tolerance to
indiscipline & poor standard of work. When you are not able to get the work
done, please inform the Head.
f] No corporal punishment should be resorted to. Even the language used in the
class must be chosen with care. Every child is an individual with self respect
and should be treated so.

Page-3

g] If your period is the one before break, lunch or final bell, ensure that the fans
and lights are switched off and all the students leave the room before you do so.

h] Please be on time for your class. If given a substitution, kindly co-operate

immediately. Any problem may be sorted out later after a discussion with the
HM. The Teacher going on leave is expected to set work. Even during medical
leave this may be done, unless the teacher is incapacitated.
,

i] No corrections of any kind should be done during class hours.

j] Students should not be permitted to leave the classroom for any reason
whatsoever, except in an emergency.

k] Except for English, Mathematics & Language Books, students should not be
asked to bring any text book to School without prior permission from the HOD
&/or the H.M.

l] Please write the homework on the black board & ensure that all the children
make a note of it in the their subject notebook. The same details must be
entered in the home work diary maintained by the Head. Please keep to the
duration planned. Please indicate the details of homework set without writing,
“Do the given work”, which is vague. The same homework must be entered in
Chennai Campus also, the same day.
m] While you are teaching, please insist on individual answers during discussions
or whenever you ask a question. Students must be trained to put up their
hands if they know the answer and you may select the one to answer. We must
also insist that they raise their hands if they have a doubt when you are
teaching. Please try to know the name of all the students you handle atleast by
the end of July.

n] Whenever there is some problem in the class, please do not send students
enmasse to the Coordinator or the Head. If they are busy or have a class these
students will only end up wasting time, searching or waiting for them. Please
remember that if one or two children create problems the mistake is on their
part but if many children are involved, the mistake is on the teacher’s part.
Please introspect, discuss with the students and the Head and approach
problems with an open mind. Things are sure to improve.

O] The Heads will help to ensure that teachers do not face discipline problems
from students. They can be counselled by the Teacher and the Head
concerned. The VP will plan for one-to-one counselling or mentoring as per the
demand of the situation. Parents have to be kept informed by email.
‘Repeaters’ have to be suspended.
This has to be done without fail.

If teachers do not follow these instructions they will definitely have problems in their classes
and they themselves will be responsible for the problems.

III ACADEMICS

1. The Lesson plan may reflect the teacher’s awareness of the students’ age and the aim
of their lesson. They should also give a clear picture of what has been done and how
it has been done. Clarity of day-to-day proceedings must be there, so that, any time a
new teacher will be in a position to take over. If something has not been done as per
plans, it must be noted down with reasons. Home work may also be given as per the
specifications planned, for all the classes.

5. Mental Ability & Mindspark have been

introduced to increase the academic standards of the School If you are handling any of
the above please do so with total involvement. Do not hesitate to ask the school for
any help as & when necessary.
6. The ICSE syllabus gives a lot of importance to English as also CIE. If we have to do
justice to these streams we have to be strong in English. Please read continuously &
whenever you come across some good article share it with others.

7. Audio Visual Tools as Teaching Aids

The Audio-Visual equipments must be put to maximum use. Every section from Std I to
IX has been given a system in the class room itself. For KG classes, two sections have
been given a system. Std X, Std XI & Std XII have also been allotted AV rooms.
Teaching, Revisions, conducting of tests / assessments & corrections can be done in

After you finish your teaching, please click the back button until you come to the
dashboard screen of the Extramarks where you can see the Logout button.
The Operating System will be corrupted if we do not logout properly.
Click logout and leave the screen as it is. Switch off the monitor / TV (with remote)
and please leave the remote near the CPU.
‘Last Period Teachers’ are requested to shut down the system and close the
cabinet.
 Do not allow students to open the cabinet or use the equipments.
 We can appoint a student to take care of the remote in rotation after every
period ends in the Senior Section. In the Junior Section, if the next period
teacher is not there, it may be left with the H.M.
As lot of time, energy and money has been spent on this, please use the software
effectively and efficiently. Please feel free to clarify your doubts with
Ms. A. K. Vijayalakshmi.

V C.C. & GAMES

1. As far as co. curricular activities go, both the teachers and students may please take
them seriously. Assessments will be conducted in SUPW, CC and Games and marks
will be awarded. This will be converted to grades in the progress report.
2. On rainy days if we are not able to take children out, they can have minor exercises
like ‘Stand-Sit’; ‘Lift Your Right Arm’ – Left Arm – Both Arms’; ‘Look to your Right –
Look to your Left’ etc. Children need to stretch themselves and have a change.

VI STUDENTS

“The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.”

Albert Einstein

1. Teachers may please keep their eyes open to identify kids who may be extremely
intelligent. These children will generally be disinterested and indifferent to the lessons
taught in the class. However they will contribute intelligently to general discussions.
Such children may be discussed with the concerned Head, Vice Principal or the
Principal. We will then have to plan special challenging work for these children with
the help and support of their parents.
……8

Page-8
2. Try to spend as much time as possible with children during breaks and lunch.
All teachers may have lunch with students in rotation regularly. Let the children
understand that you are approachable. Children then come out with problems and you
may be in a position to help them. Many problems get resolved if you communicate
effectively with students individually when they have problems. If you feel that the
Heads have to be informed for some action, please do so. Children have to be
counselled continuously, sometimes professional help may have to be sought.

3. Please do not accept unruly or uncultured behaviour. Children have to be taught the
rudiments of civilized behaviour & must understand that improper behaviour will not be
accepted.

4. a] Problem Students – often we come across students who perplex us. All our
efforts seem futile. In such cases, a check list may be had and this may include
– Family background, background of friends, eating habits, etc. Please also try
to find out whether the child is eating proper meals, is seated comfortably in
the class, is entering the homework details, is dyslexic, is able to hear properly,
needs specs etc. Be in touch with the parents constantly. If the child continues
to create problems and you are unable to tackle them do bring it to the notice of
the Heads. Proper counselling helps solve many problems. When your
counselling fails, regular mentoring by some teacher has to be done.
b] The Head has Registers for children who are a challenge in academics &/or
discipline. Mention must be made in this Register about problems faced,
suggestions given & action taken.
c] Note books for feedback for individual student’s behaviour or for the entire
section may have to be maintained if misbehaviour persists. Please give an
honest feedback otherwise misbehaviour will spread to other students & other
classes also.
5. Mentoring is an essential part of a teacher’s job, in fact all teachers must be mentors.
Group-mentoring & individual-mentoring have to be done regularly. The VP will plan
as per the demands of the situation. Wherever & whenever individual mentoring is
done a weekly report has to be given. However all teachers are expected to talk to the
children as often as possible, if possible everyday. Please utilise the break periods &
lunch periods for these.

6. FIRST AID

All the Heads must have a First Aid box with the necessary things via 1) Antiseptic
2) Plasters 3) Cotton 4) Bandage 5) Balms/Sprays for sprains & aches 6) Paracetamol
tablets / syrups 7) Lotion for allergies 8) Glaxose D/ Glucon C etc in their office. When
any child or any staff has a medical emergency, First Aid must be immediately given. In
the Junior Section, Ms.Meena has to be contacted and in the Senior Section,
Ms.Dhanbam has to be contacted. The Head may then make a call to the concerned
parent/family member/spouse and discuss for further course of action. Please
remember if it is a Head or an Eye injury the child/staff must definitely be taken to a
Doctor at the earliest. If parents/spouse are/is not free to come, we can arrange for
the check-up in Aristo Hospital.

VII PARENTS

1. Be in touch with the parents

regarding their ward’s activities in the school through the HM. Please keep them
informed of the problems of children and take their assistance where necessary.
Whenever they contact you please be brief and to the point. Whenever written notes
are sent, please ensure that they are error free.

VIII LEAVE
All Teaching Staff are entitled to 8 days of Casual Leave and
8 days of Medical Leave. Those who take only 2 or less than 2
days leave may encash the rest.
All Leave Applications may be sent to Ms K.B.Leelavathi.
Casual Leave cannot be taken as a matter of right. It has been
noticed that some teachers have been asking for leave without
discretion. For all the very important celebrations in Siblings' or
spouse's Siblings' families, CL may be applied for, at least a
week ahead. For functions/celebrations of other relatives/friends, permissions of a
maximum of 1 hour may be granted. 4 permissions will be taken as half-a-day leave.
Such permissions can be granted only by the Principal. In case of emergencies when
CL has to be taken the same day, the Principal may be contacted by the teachers of
the Senior Section. Teachers of the Junior Section, CC & Games may contact the
Vice Principal.
Sick Leave should always be supported by a medical certificate if it is for more than
three days. It is advisable that the school is informed at least an hour before the
school starts, when medical leave has to be taken.
The School may have to give a printed note for any lapse.

Children need lots of unconditional love and affection. Those who are weak in
academics now, may be late bloomers. We should create an atmosphere where
they feel that all of them will be treated the same way because though they are
young they understand about ‘fair-play’. Please do not shout, scream or
threaten, because they may take you very seriously and refuse to come to
School.
All of us must work in unity & with empathy. In a good team all are equals. Let
us work with the welfare of children in mind. If we have ego amongst ourselves,
children will suffer, as a consequence the reputation of the School will suffer.

Your contribution to the

School is invaluable so please give your best.
God bless you!
