J Installation Instructions for Purolator Kit No. 1741140 For Installation on Bell Helicopter 206L-3 and 206L-4 Model Helicopters. General: This installation will be made easier if done during and inspection when the engine oil is completely drained from engine, oil cooler and tank. ‘The filter assembly (1740001-01) was factory tested and shipped wet with MIL-L-7808, aircraft turbine engine oil. It is recommended that the installer read through the instructions completely before starting to censure that there will be no problem with completing this installation, Preparation: Disconnect battery. Remove panel covering oil cooler and tank. Remove inspection door from right rear side of fuselage, P/N: 206-032-328-003. Remove scavenge oil line running from aft engine firewall to oil cooler “IN” fitting, P/N: 206-064-517-1 5. Oil tank drain and scupper drain lines will have to be repositioned to allow plate and filter installation. Removal will not be necessary. BeRe Installation: 1, Locate plate (item 4 ~ 1741011-07) over upper deck with flanges up. The 3" rivet forward of the screw securing the left aft mount bracket for the oil tank aligns with the outermost .257 diameter hole in the plate. Locate filter assembly (item 1 - 1740001-01) over the plate. CAUTION: Check clearance on left-hand side of filter, reducer, hose Endfitting and upper fairing (cowling) assembly. Check hose and filter clearances in area of drive shaft. 2. Mark and remove rivets in rivet lines on left and right that lay under the plate (item 4 ~ 1741011-07) and are in line with the aft oil tank mount screws. Drill out using No. 20 drill (161 diameter) 8 places. Enlarge the 3" rivet hole forward of the tank mount screw which aligns with the .257 diameter plate hole, as mentioned in step 1, to.257 diameter using a letter “F” drill (.257 diameter). Note: Maintain edge clearance from bend angle on underside of deck A grees 4-922, Rev. J 3. Locate plate (item 4 - 1741011-07) in position and temporarily secure with a bolt through the 257 diameter hole mentioned in steps 1 and 2. Mark and drill plate to match holes in upper deck made by removing rivets. Drill out using No. 20 drill (.161 diameter) as required and for the 2" hole forward of the aft side of the plate on the right hand side, drill out using a No. 4 drill (.209 diameter). 4, Locate plate (item 4 ~ 1741011-07) in position and temporarily secure with a bolt through the .257 diameter hole mentioned in steps 1 and 2. Mark and drill upper deck to match existing holes in the plate, 2 letter “F” drill (57 diameter) holes; and also drill in upper deck and plate, No. 20 (.161 diameter) holes for a bolt or rivet line parallel to the bent up cars using the 4 pilot holes in the plate as a guide, 5. Prepare upper deck and plate (item 4 ~ 1741011-07) for permanent mounting. Deburr all holes,’zine chromate bare spots on upper deck and plate. Make sure upper deck and plate are clear of all burrs, dirt and chips. 6. Locate and secure plate (item 4 ~ 1741011-07) on upper deck with screws (item 5 — MS35206-245), washers (item 7 — AN960-8L) and nuts (item 6 ~ MS21042-08). Do not install mounting hardware in the .209 diameter hole on the right hand side at this time. Notes: Sealant (not included) may be applied around plate and beneath screw heads. Rivets (not included) may also be used to secure plate in place of screws. Make installation conform to FAR part 43. 7. Mount filter assembly (item 1 - 1740001-01) with 3 bolts (item 10 - AN4-30A), 3 nuts (item 11 - MS21042-L4), 6 washers (item 12 - AN960-16) and 3 spacers (item 13 ~ 1741111) located between the filter assembly and plate. Apply a bead of sealant under spacers. Torque nuts to 50 — 55 in. Ibs. Caution: “IN” side of filter must be closest to tailrotor drive shaft and connected by hose to the scavenge oil line fitting on the aft side of the engine firewall. 8. Secure hose assembly (item 3 ~ 1741110-16), straight end to the scavenge oil line fitting on the aft side of the engine firewall and route hose down to upper deck and connect 45° fitting on to “IN” side of filter assembly (item 1 — 1740001-01). 9. Secure hose assembly (item 2 - 1741110-11), 90° end on to “OUT” side of filter assembly (item 1 - 1740001-01) and route to oil cooler inlet. Secure 45° fitting to oil cooler inlet. 10, Hose support clamps installation. [Se E-922, Rev. J a. For hose assembly (item 2 — 1741110-11) connecting the “OUT” side scavenge oil filter to the oil cooler inlet, place clamp (item 8 - MS21919WDG-13) around hose and secure to plate and deck at the 2™ rivet hole and the right hand side of the plate forward of the aft side of the plate using spacer (item 22 NAS43DD3- 64), bolt (item 17 — AN3-14A), nut (item 6 - MS21042-L3) and washer (item 17 — AN960-8L) as shown, b. Place 2 clamps (item 8 - MS21919WDG-13) around hose (item 2 - 1741110-11) and hose (item 3 ~ 1741110-16) and secure clamps together with bolt (item 14 — AN3-4A) and nut (item 15 ~ MS21042-L3). Hose should lay free without stress due to twist or tension. Check hose routing for clearance and chafing on structure, other hoses, etc. c. For hose assembly (item 3 ~ 1741110-16) connecting from the engine firewall to “IN” side of scavenge oil filter, place clamp (item 8 - MS21919WDG-13) around hose and clamp (item 9 — MS21919WDG-8) around oil cooler hard line and secure clamps together with bolt (item 14 — AN3-4A) and nut (item 15 — MS21042-L3), 11. Adjust oil tank drain and scupper drain lines for clearance around filter assembly. Install protective spiral wrap (item 19 ~ 1741126) around scupper drain line and secure from chafing on other parts using cable tie (item 18 - 1741128) as shown. 12. Check all fittings, bolts, clamps and components for security, proper fit and clearance. Ensure aft fuselage compartment is clear of tools, rags, etc. Install inspection door 206- 032-328-003. 13, Place label (item 20 ~ 1741120), for indicator reset adjacent to the scavenge oil filter assembly in plain view of pilot. Activate the adhesive with a solvent such as Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). 14, Install oil in oil tank and prepare helicopter for engine run-up and leak test. Connect battery. After final inspection and leak test, prepare helicopter for flight. a ae een E-922, Rev.
