There is no sharing next week. Your child
will only share on his/her VIP day (see
calendar that was sent home last week).
Next week Tuesday is our assessment day. I
will be assessing the students on the sight
words, counting to 100, and 2d and 3d
shapes. Mrs. Kawamura will be subbing.
Our field trip to the zoo is on Friday.
This week we continued learning about how
plants and animals change the environment to
meet their needs. We read about the woodpecker
and identified key details that we learned. We
also learned how to do a “quickdraw” to help us to
remember key details while we are reading a text.
We finished up learning about valentine’s day and
then we learned about president’s day and the two
presidents who are celebrated: george
washington and abraham lincoln. We practiced
identifying different coins that have the
different former presidents on them.

Next week we will be learning about maps. We

Maps formative: students will identify places on a map
(island, ocean, city, capitol)
Reading/writing formativE: students will identify a
favorite book, his/her favorite part in the book, and why.
Language arts assessment: students will be assessed on
phonemic awareness and phonics skills and listening
comprehension
will learn how to identify the city, state, and
country and where the water and land are on a
map. Next week we will also be learning about
important landmarks in the united states, one of
them being mount rushmore! Perfect timing since
it was just president’s day!
