Abstract
In this paper, the proposed system will be design and implemented for detecting
any intruder entering inside a room and alert or raise an alarm. With the help of
various sensors detecting will be done easily and security will also be improved.
In the traditional security system i.e. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) it only
captures and record video without able to alert or raise an alarm if there is any
suspicious object. The proposed design is implemented using IR sensors to
detect any intruder using Arduino with the Internet of Things (IOT) for smart
rooms. Nowadays we’re having automation of every little electrical device in
our homes. Internet of Things is the concept of basically connecting any device
with on and off switch to internet. Then the PIR sensors will detect the person
entering the room and will automatically turn on and off the lights. Hence,
considering the above mentioned facts, in this paper, I have proposed an
advanced Internet of Thing based Security Alert System for Smart Home in
order to detect an intruder or any unusual event at home, when nobody is
available there along with automatic control of the lights and alert an alarm.
Chapter 1
Introduction
Security has becoming an important issue everywhere. Room security is
becoming necessary nowadays as the possibilities of intrusion are increasing
day by day. Safety from theft, leaking of raw gas and fire are the most important
requirements of security system for people.

Smart Home can be also known as Automated Home or intelligent home which
indicates the automation of daily tasks with electrical appliances used in homes.
This could be the control of lights, fans, viewing of the house interiors for
surveillance purposes or giving the alarm alteration or indication in case of gas
leakage.

This proposed system will mainly focus on security i.e. to detect any intruder
entering a room and automatic control of the lights and alert an alarm after
detecting the intruder. With the help of this system we can detect any suspicious
event occurring around the house or someone trying to enter in a private room.
This is an IoT based project which will develop a Smart building/home system
in which various events can be monitored.

Objective

 To create a smart security system this would help people in automating

and monitoring any intruder.
 It would also help capture the intruder or any suspicious event happening
around.
 Help in protecting the room.
 Using the sensors it will detect and alert an alarm.

Overview

This is a project in which we will build an IoT based electronic device that
forms the basis of smart buildings. This proposed project can sense occupants in
the room with the help of PIR sensors and alert an alarm with the help of a
buzzer.
Existing Systems:

Traditional system uses Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV) where images and
video streaming is being taken. The process is slow since no alarm is being set
so in case of theft no one will be able to help or detect the theft or intruder.

With the increase technology Smart Buildings System are being implemented
by many companies in different houses and buildings. There are various
systems in the market for Smart home system which helps in detection and
capture the intruder and sends sms or email to the owner or feedback to the
owner.

Problem Definition:

For owners and operators of small to large-sized buildings, the cost of adding
smart-building technologies requires huge investment, making it prohibitively
expensive for many. As a result, most small-medium building owners and
operators do not have automated access to data in their buildings, thus making it
very difficult to realize energy savings, lower maintenance costs, and improve
overall building performance. The time to detect the intruder is less and
comparatively quite low.

Proposed Plan

In this project I am planning to develop the Room Intruder Detection System

over IoT using the Arduino platform.

In this system I will be using Arduino module to connect all the materials for
developing the system like PIR sensor.

Like many existing systems that are similar to my proposed project they don’t
have the alarm alert which I am planning to keep for alerting the people or the
owner and automatically control on and off the lights for any suspicious or
intruder.

System Design Approach

Based on the problems faced, we propose an IoT system with additional

capability to detect and recognize intruder using C# language. The system is
implemented on Arduino platform. The Arduino is used to integrate all the
electronic devices in one environment. To detect the motion, the PIR sensor is
utilized.
Software Design

In designing a system, the first step is to develop the architecture of the system.
Firstly, we need to consider the scenario of possible intruder entry and scenario
how the warning is informed. From a possible intruder scenario, it can be seen
in the “Arrival of Intruder” section in Fig 1. In this research, we assume the
intruder to enter the house from the front door. From the arrival of intruders, the
PIR Sensor that is located near the front door is the first component to be
activated when detects the motion of intruder. The PIR sensor read every
movement that passes through the detection range of the PIR sensor, i.e.
approximately 5-7 meters. In the process of motion detection, the system will
read continuously until a movement is found.

Feasibility Study:

Economic Feasibility

In this project I will use all the materials that are available in the
market, easy to get and they are cost efficient. The P.I.R sensor that I
will use for the automatic lighting system is the IR sensor for
detecting the occupants that are entering the room and a buzzer for
alerting an alarm.

Technical Feasibility:

The existing hardware and software are capable in developing this

system as the resources that I will be using are easily available and
they can cope with the processes in building this system as for
developing tool i.e. Arduino IDE version 1.8.5 is an open source
software and the hardware devices such as, PIR sensor ,IR sensor and
so on are available in the market.

Operational Feasibility
The end product of this project can easily be handled by participants.
The participants do not need much technical skills to operate this
product and it is easy to use. The benefits of this product is that it
helps the users to control this system without the need of any man-
power as well as reducing the time as in this system various
functionalities are embedded and can be monitored within a single
device

CHAPTER 3
CONCLUSION AND FUTURE SCOPE

The world is undergoing a dramatic transformation, rapidly transitioning from isolated

systems to ubiquitous Internet-enabled ‘things’ capable of generating data that can be
analyzed to extract valuable information. Commonly referred to as the Internet of Things
(IoT).A Smart Room is an intelligent space that optimizes efficiency, comfort, safety for
people, and asset performance within the house. Moving forward, the IOT will drive nearly
every house system to have built-in, secure, interconnected intelligence. Similarly, the
supporting network and cloud infrastructure are enhanced to better protect data, manage
devices, and perform data analytics.

The system will be made in such a way that it can count accurately even if more than one
person enters the room at a time. Sensors with high responsiveness will be used in the later
implementation of this work. Hence, accurate computation can be done. The power
consumed by the electrical appliances will be calculated in monetary terms.

 Creating a Smart Room using IoT which would help people in

o Automating lighting system in a room,
o Temperature measuring,
o Calculating power consumption over IoT.
 Send notification when temperature is high. And the user can ON or OFF the Fan/AC
through the Application developed for this System.
 Counting the number of number of occupants entering a room. And based on the
number of people the light will be ON or OFF.
 Storing data (power consumed) in Microsoft Excel and analyze data in an Excel
Sheet.
 Using Data Analytics over stored data to build a model which would assist in Power
consumption reduction.
 Generation of an e-bill and communicating the same via IoT to the user as an alert if
more power consumption takes place.
