Simile-a stated

comparison usually
formed with “like” or “as”
between two
fundamentally dissimilar
things that have certain
qualities in common.
Examples:
 My love is like a red,
red rose.
 You were as brave
as a lion.
 You fought like cats
and dogs.
 He is skinny like a
toothpick.
 Love is like a rosary
that is full of
mystery.
 Kian ate his food
like a vacuum
cleaner.
Metaphor-involves a
comparison between two
relatively unlike things
without the use of “like” or
“as”
Example:
 Henry was a lion on the
battlefield.
 My brother was boiling
mad.
 The assignment was a
breeze.
 Time is a thief.
 He has a heart of stone.
 You are my sunshine.
