Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

PowerPoint will support all students in the creating and narrating of their books and videos. This tool allows
the students to enhance their learning experience with hands on creative use of technology to produce a
tangible artifact.
Lesson idea implementation:

At the start of my lesson I will introduce the standard in kid friendly terminology by saying, “How many
fingers am I holding up. While I hold up all ten fingers. Ill give the students thinking time then allow answers
and I will then request that the students hold their hands up and tell me how many fingers they have. I will
then introduce the idea of counting by tens instead of counting by ones. We will spend a few minutes
counting by tens on our friends’ hands. I will then open up the PowerPoint Tool on the white screen for all
the students to see and briefly describe how the PowerPoint was turned into a book. I will read the book
created from my PowerPoint. Then I will tell them that the book was turned into a short video. I will show
the PowerPoint narrated video.
After the video I will explain that the students will be creating their own PowerPoint book filled with items
that they want to count. I will then encourage them to do their best work so that we can turn their books
into short videos to share with other Kindergarten classes in our school. I will encourage my students to
brainstorm ideas of items they would like to count in their books. We will create an anchor chart and add
visual drawings for our ELLs. I will then have them move to the computer lab so all students will be able to
follow along as I explain the steps of creating a PowerPoint. Students will be given a rubric for self-
assessment and this will also be used to grade. Once they have the hang of it, I will travel around supporting
and encouraging. Books will be printed, and videos will be uploaded to our Canvas page to share with
parents. I will also speak with the administration to see if sharing with the other Kindergarten classes would
be appropriate.
Reflective Practice:
I hope that my lesson will be something my students remember for a while. They will be creating their own
books and at the end their own videos narrating their books. Even though they are little I hope to instill a love

of learning and a level of confidence in their abilities. All students are capable, and I hope to develop their
technology skills so that they can continue to grow in their understanding of technology.
