McDonald's Corporation is the world's largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving more

than 58 million customers daily.

*It all started with hot dogs.

*The business began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in
San Bernardino, California. Their introduction of the "Speedee Service System" in 1948 established the
principles of the modern fast-food restaurant.

*The present McDonald's corporation dates its founding to the opening of a franchised restaurant by Ray
Kroc, in Des Plaines, Illinois, on April 15, 1955. Kroc later purchased the McDonald brothers' equity in the
company and led its worldwide expansion.

*The first McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines Illinois on April 15, 1955. Their first day sales
were $366.12

*The number of McDonald’s outlets would top 1,000 before the end of the decade. Boosted by steady
growth, the company’s stock began trading publicly in 1965.

*In 1967 McDonald's went international with restaurant openings in Canada and Puerto Rico

*The chain continued to expand domestically and internationally, extending to Canada in 1967, reaching
a total of 10,000 restaurants by 1988, and operating more than 35,000 outlets in more than 100
countries in the early 21st century. Growth was so swift in the 1990s that it was said a new McDonald’s
opened somewhere in the world every five hours.
