Title of lesson: Different Representations of Slope
Name: Katrina Dedvukaj
Length of lesson: 55 minutes

Context of lesson: Students have received several days of instruction regarding slope and slope intercept form
equations. Today’s lesson is a review and an opportunity to have students see the concepts of slope and slope
intercept form equations represented in various ways.

Overview: I will explain each of the stations briefly before breaking the students up into groups. Groups will
move on to the next station when the timer goes off. For co-taught Algebra 1, my co-teacher will be at Station
2 where students are to complete the Mountain Climber Problem. I will be at Station 4 where students will
work on the Plant Problem. Students are to go to all four stations by the end of the hour. Students will have a
quiz tomorrow and have the Day 5 Review and Vocabulary to complete for homework. Students have time to
ask questions before the quiz.

Central problem/Essential Question: How do we model linear relationships?

Objectives: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSF.LE.A.2
“Construct linear and exponential functions, including arithmetic and geometric sequences, given a graph, a
description of a relationship, or two input-output pairs (include reading these from a table).”

Students will be able to: Represent slope and model linear relationships in different ways.

Anticipated student conceptions or challenges to understanding: Students might struggle to write a linear
model so the slope intercept form equation will be on the board for all groups to have access to. Students will
need to remember rise over run for finding slope from a table. I will have them write a note on their station
logs before they begin to alleviate confusion.

Materials/Evidence/Sources:
• Linear Graphs for Station 1 • Station Log
• Linear Tables for Station 2 • Calculators

Instructional Sequence:
1. (5 minutes) Teacher will explain the expectations for the stations and break the students up into three
groups.
2. (40 minutes) Students will spend 10 minutes at each of the four stations (Station 2 will have co teacher
to lead during co taught hours). Activity will be turned in at the end of class.
3. Extra time: Students can ask questions about the review. If students did not finish the stations, they
may turn it in tomorrow.

Teacher Reflection: Condense each station to allow for more time to work through problems and to field
questions.

Assessment: Students have a quiz on Slope and Slope Intercept Form tomorrow 11/15/2020.

Mountain Climbers (STATION 2)


Carlos was climbing a mountain that Vijay was descending when they met. Carlos left at 8 am from an
altitude of 350 feet and gained 100 ft/hr. Vijay left at 8 am from an altitude of 1850 feet and lost 150 ft/hr.
