I. Introduction

Silay City had been known in the past as the “Little Paris of Negros” and the

“Cultural and Intellectual Hub of Negros” due to the residents love for knowledge and

works of art. Silay is also known as the “Museum City” in the Philippines next to Vigan

because of the beauty of the well-preserved European-inspired houses which have

been declared as historical landmarks. In the present situation of our city, the citizens

forget the value and importance of knowing the history and cultures of our city. As

Marcus Gravey said, “A people without knowing the knowledge of their past history,

origin, and cultures is like a tree without roots.” As citizens of Silay, knowing the history

and cultures of our own city will be the key in unlocking who we really are.

We started this research to follow and commemorate the important events in the

deep and long history of Silay City.

This research aims to answer the following questions:

 What are the important events that is significant in the development of Silay?

 What is the Geographic Status and the Geographic Features of Silay?

 Who are the prominent families that made a contribution in developing Silay?

The scope of this study ranges only to the whole City of Silay and it’s citizens.

This research aims to help the future generations in commemorating the rich history

of Silay. It will also help those tourist who want to know the history of our city. This will

serve as a guide for other students to be knowledgeable about those prominent families

and individuals that had a great contribution in Silay City. It promotes the importance of

valuing and maintaining the history of the city.
