Quantitative Research

Systematic empirical investigation of observable phenomena via statistical, mathematical, or

computational techniques.

Quantitative data is any data that is in numerical form such as statistics, percentages, etc.

The process of measurement is central to quantitative research because it provides the fundamental
connection between empirical observation and mathematical expression of quantitative relationships.

Types of Quantitative Research

Survey Research

Survey research uses interviews, questionnaires, and sampling polls to get a sense of behavior with
intense precision.

Correlational Research

Correlational research tests for the relationships between two variables.

Casual-Comparative Research

Casual-comparative research looks to uncover a cause and effect relationship.

Experimental Research

Though questions may be posed in the other forms of research, experimental research is guided
specifically by a hypothesis.

Advantages

1. Quantitative research is research that is based on objective facts statistics and numerical data.
2. The outcome of quantitative research is easy to measure and the results can be clearly shown
through objective data.
3. The ability to expand quantitative data into predictions is major advantage.
4. The results are valid, reliable and generalizable to larger population
5. The research problem is stated in set and specific terms to avoid any misinterpretation by the
sampled population in answering any question concerning the topic under study.
6. Conduct in-depth research minimum bias accurate results.

Disadvantages

1. It cannot beused to explain social phenomena, which makes it less useful in fields like sociology.
2. Fail to provide the researcher with the information he/she requires on the context of the
situation in the
