Open position in SMS Lab @ HKNU

The positions of PhD or MS candidates (or Post-doctoral researchers) are currently available in
SMS Lab. @ HKNU (Smart Materials and Structures Laboratory at Hankyong National
University; http://sms.hknu.ac.kr) in Republic of Korea. Hankyong National University
(www.hankyong.ac.kr) is located at Anseong 50 km away from Seoul, Korea.

Our lab. aims to (1) understand mechanical characteristics of smart materials and composite
structures; and (2) develop novel structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques for composite
structures used in various engineering fields through analytical and experimental approaches.
The research interests in details includes:

 evaluation of impact-induced damages in composite structures,

 application of smart materials (SMA, SMP, STF etc.),
 structural optimization for composite structures,
 design of ground facilities of space launch vehicles,
 structural health monitoring (SHM) using optical fiber sensors,
 development of metal-coated optical fiber sensors,
 spectrum analysis for FBG sensors,
 and the other engineering subjects related to composite materials.

The PhD candidates, MS candidates, and Post-doctoral researchers will be funded from
1,500,000 Won/month, 1,200,000 Won/month, and 2,000,000 Won/month including tax,

doctoral researchers. The medical insurance is covered for him and his family. The life expenses
including tuition fee, accommodation, and meals may not exceed to 900,000 Won/month.

Our lab. welcome highly motivated and self-initiative candidates with technical leadership skills
in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical and Control
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marine and Ocean Engineering, and the other majors related to
smart materials and composite structures. Moreover, the candidates who have computer
programming and development skills related to MATLAB, FORTRAN, PYTHON, and
commercial FE simulators are welcomed. In addition, to be considered for these positions, the
successful candidates will possess a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a PhD degree in
Integrated Systems Engineering. It is desired that you have published several papers in the
scientific journals and speak English fluently.

Interested applicants need to submit a CV (including GPA for all courses, teaching experience,
publication lists, and project lists so far) and three professional references (only name, address
and not for their letters).
