What are the two main types of lighting?
There’s low key lighting. By the looks of the picture. I want to say he is
angry/really crazy. Possible mental disorder, with intent to kill/bring pain to
another begin. Could possibly be dragging something because his left arm is
down to his side
There’s high key lighting. There seems to be a clear friendship between the
two characters. Both look like some kind of detective or alien hunter
(because of the weapons there holding). The lighting is setting the scene and
showing what’s important. Showing the background which looks like some
kind of spaceship/sci-fi HQ
High Key lighting. The actor seems to be scared, worried and anxious. To be
honest I’m not to sure what is going on in this picture. In my opinion I think it
some sort of hair drying machine. Using the blur behind him makes the
audience focus on him and nothing else.
TASK: Look at the following image. Analyse the Mise en Scene and describe
why the shot has been set up as it has. Remember to consider all five
elements.
The lighting in my opinion is lower key. I’ve noticed that the main characters are in the centre of the
image, in the most lighting, with very limited shadow around them. The colours are bold and stand
out. The colour red identifies the ‘odd’ one out, possibly the good guy. Making him stand out from
the rest who all kind blend in with the scene. The overall picture looks like a sci-fi setting and could
possibly be on a different planet. Still creating the sense of mystery. The golden colour could show
and represent wealth, to back that up the army which is in the bottom of half of the picture could
suggest protecting the ‘important one.’ The army appear to be holding spears, wearing a helmet and
wearing armour.
