Track Markings

 All lines are 5cm wide and lanes 1.22m +/-0.01m wide. Athlete’s lane is from the outer edge of the inside line to the
outer edge of the outside line.

 Curved white start line for 800m on a line, 2000m, 10,000m- curved so that everyone running same distance. Any curved
start line for distance races can extend out past lane 8 if there is artificial surface extending further. Echelon start line
lanes 4-8, again curved white line. If there are more than 12 starters 2/3’s start on the normal line, 1/3 on the echelon
start line and remain in the outer 4 lanes until they exit the first bend. The line between lanes 4 & 5 has cones placed
every 4m until the finish of the bend. The athletes in the outer group MUST stay in the outer lanes until they pass the
end of the cone line. If they cut in early they are shortening the distance to be run.

 800m start in lanes- staggered start white/green lines. Athletes must stay in their lane until they reach the break line
and then may cut into lane 1.

 400m and 4x100m relay start line- staggered start white lines. Athletes remain in their lane throughout the entire race

 4x400m (and 4x200m) relay start line- staggered start white/blue lines. 4x400m athletes run 1st lap + 100m in lanes then
break at the 800m break line.

 So the staggers in order are 800m, 400m/4x100m, and 4x400m

 Steeplechase hurdle placement mark blue squares.

 400/300m hurdles placement marks- small green squares in staggers

 2000m steeplechase start line for outside water jump curved white line just before the 300m start staggers

 Relay change 1 marks


o Acceleration zone blue
o Change zone entry yellow tick
o Scratch/centre line = 300m start line
o Change zone exit yellow tick

 1500m start- curved white line in the middle of the 300m start staggers

 800m break line - green line from lane 2 outward just past the 1500m start line. Small cones/markers of a contrasting
colour to the track are placed on the lane lines immediately before the intersection of the lane lines and the break line.
Athletes must not cut in before they reach this line- if they do they are shortening the distance to be run.

 3000m steeplechase start line for inside water jump curved white line ½ way down the back straight

 Change 2 markings- as for change 1


 1000m, 3000m, 5000m start line- curved white line, again with echelon start. Outer group move in after they exit the
bend.

 200m start = scratch/centre mark for change 2. White staggers.

 Steeplechase diversion dashed line towards the water jump- Porritt outside pit, Tauranga inside pit.

 Change 3 markings as for previous. Staggers are much less now.

 3000m steeplechase start for outside water jump curved white line

 2000m steeplechase start for inside water jump curved white line

 1 Mile start line curved white line

 Change 4 markings
o Change zone entry staggers for 1st change 4x400m relay blue tick
o Extended change zone entry blue lines for changes 2&3 4x400m
o Change zone exit staggers blue tick
o Extended change zone exit blue line for changes 2&3 4x400m in lanes 1-5

 Sprint straight
o 110m start line for hurdles hurdle marks blue
o 100m start line hurdle marks yellow
o 80m start line hurdle marks black
o 70m start line hurdle marks white
o 60m start line
May be extra start lines for children’s events.

 Anemometer placed 50m from the finish line no more than 2m from inside of the track, 1.22m high (the width of a lane).

 Finish line has small black squares to assist photofinish.
