ALTER (VERB)

When you alter something, you change it.


She alters the dress to make it fit.
OCCUR (VERB)

When something occurs, it


happens. A sunrise occurs every
morning.
STATE (NOUN)

The state of a person or thing is the


way it is at a certain time. He is in a
happy state.
SUBSTANCE (NOUN)

Substance is the material that


something is made of. Snow is a cold
substance.
TRAP (VERB)

To trap something means to catch it and


not let it go. Spiders trap insects with
webs.
FORM (NOUN)

A form is a certain state of matter.


Steam is one form of water.
FREEZE (VERB)

To freeze is to become solid or icy


at a very low temperature. We
freeze water to make ice cubes.
THERMOMETER (NOUN)

A thermometer is used to measure


temperature. The doctor uses a
thermometer to check for a fever.
TEMPERATURE (NOUN)

The temperature of something is how


hot or cold it is.

Something that is liquid
can be poured. Orange
juice is a liquid
substance.
SOLID (ADJECTIVE)
Something that is
solid is firm. The
chair is solid so the
cat can sit on it.
MELT (VERB)
To change from a solid
to a liquid.
The sun always melts
my ice cream.
