Introduction
This manual will assist in setting up and connecting a Vista 128BPT or Vista
250BPT panel to a Pro-Watch 3.8 system. This guide assumes familiarity with
the basic principles and programming of Pro-Watch and Vista panels. This
manual also assumes the system has Administrator privileges for both the
Operating System and the Pro-Watch software.
Requirements
The following items are required for the integration of the Vista 128/250BPT
series panels and Pro-Watch:
Pro-Watch Software
o Pro-Watch 3.8 build 8475 or higher
o Security Dongle with Vista Panel support enabled
o Serial COM port or Lantronix UDS100 or UDS1100 (optional)
Vista Equipment
o Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT
o Lantronix UDS100 or UDS1100 (optional)
Serial Communications
The Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT can connect either to the Pro-Watch Server’s
COM port directly or can be interfaced to the Pro-Watch system using an optional
Lantronix UDS100 or UDS1100 terminal interface device. There are two methods
provided for the wiring of the RS232 connection.
1. Using flying leads from the terminal block TB4 to a 9- or 25-pin serial
connector.
2. Plugging the VT-SERCBL cable into header J9. This connector
terminates in a 9-pin serial connector. To connect this to a PC, you must
use a standard straight through serial cable with a 9-pin female connector
on the panel end and the appropriate connector for the PC on the other
end.
Notes
o TB4 and J9 cannot be used simultaneously.
o Pro-Watch and the printer cannot be used at the same time.
o The TB4 connection method is intended for permanent wiring, such
as a connection to Pro-Watch.
o The J9 connection method is intended for direct connect
programming, where the serial connection being made is only a
temporary connection.
Lantronix UDS100 / UDS1100 Connection (optional)
Use the following steps to configure the UDS1100 or UDS100 for use with the
Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT.
NOTE: A DB9 to DB25 Null cable is required between the UDS and the
Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT. See page 41 for wiring diagrams on serial
cables.
Connect the Lantronix UDS100 / UDS1100 to the customer’s network. If

the IP Address of the UDS is unknown or undefined, the following steps
will set a temporary IP address. If an IP address has been assigned,
please skip to step 5
.
To set a static ARP with a desired IP address using the hardware address
of the UDS device which is printed on the product label. The following is
the command example for Windows, using a command prompt, when the
hardware address of the UDS is 00-20-4A-64-CC-3D.
1. From a workstation on the network, click on Start > Run
2. In the open box, type CMD and click OK.
3. To assign and IP Address to the UDS100 / UDS1100, at the Command

Prompt, enter the command ARP –S followed by a space, the IP Address,
space and the MAC Address of the UDS100 / UDS1100 and press Enter.
a. ARP –s <IP Address> <MAC Address>

b. Example: ARP –s 192.168.1.14 00-20-4A-64-CC-3D
4. Open a Telnet connection to port number 1. This connection will fail, but
the UDS will change its IP address to the desired one designated in the
above step.
a. telnet <IP Address> <Port Number>

b. Example: telnet 192.168.1.14 1
5. Open a Telnet connection to port 9999 and set all required parameters.
a. telnet <IP Address> <Port Number>

b. Example: telnet 192.168.1.14 9999
6. To change the basic parameters, press 0.
7. IP Address – The IP Address must be set to a unique value in the
network.
8. Gateway IP Address – If there is no Gateway used between the UDS

device and the Pro-Watch server, press N and Enter to skip this question.
If a Gateway is used, press Y. Next enter the IP address of the gateway.
9. Netmask – A netmask defines how many bits from the IP address are to
be taken as the network section and how many bits are to be taken as the
host section. If set to 0, the standard appropriate netmask for the actual IP
address is used. (See table below for typical netmask.
10. Telnet Config Password – The telnet configuration password can be set to
disable unauthorized access to the setup menu through a telnet
connection to the setup port (9999). For the setup through the serial port,
it is not necessary to enter the password.
a. It is recommended that a password is not set at this time.
11. To change the channel parameters, select the channel being used.
a. Example - press 1 for channel 1
12. Baud Rate – Set the baud rate to 9600 and press Enter.
13. Interface Mode – Set the I/F mode to the default setting of 4C (RS-232C, 8
bit, No Parity, 1 Stop)
14. Flow Control – Set the Flow Control to 00 for no flow control.
15. Port Number – This setting is the source port number in TCP connections
and is the number used to identify the channel for remote initiated
connections. The port number must be unique for each channel and my
not be set to 0 or 9999 (Range: 1- 65535) For Pro-Watch applications, set
the value to 3001 and press Enter.
16. The remaining questions can be left at the factory default values. Press
Enter until returned to the configuration menu.
17. Press 9 and Enter to save the settings and exit the configuration menu.
Once the settings have saved, close the command prompt window.
Programming the Vista 128 BPT Panel / 250 BPT Panel
The Vista panel must be configured to allow communications to the Pro-Watch

software. To program the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT panel, all programming
changes will be addressed from the remote keypad.
Vista 128 BPT / Vista 250 BPT Keypad Command Summary
Find out the installer code. For 128/250 BPT it is 4140 by default.
To set defaults (optional), enter *97

o 1 to load ADEMCO defaults; 2 to load ADT defaults; 0 to exit
without changing programming
To set engineering defaults, enter *96

o If this is performed then perform a *97 to set standard defaults.
To enter into program mode

o Enter installer code 4140 + [8] + [0]+ [0] +[0]
o Installer code can be modified *00 option once entered into
program mode.
To change to next page of program fields, press *94

o Press *94 to move to 2nd page, (fields 1*01 – 1*76)
Press *99 to move back to 1st page
o Press *94 to move to 3rd page, (fields 2*00 – 2*88)
Press *99 to move back to 2nd page
o Press *94 to move to 4th page, (fields 3*00 – 3*85)
Press *99 to move back to 3rd page
To return to previous fields, press *99
Vista 128 BPT / Vista 250 BPT Keypad Command Details
Follow these steps to configure the Vista 128/250 BPT panel for integration with
Pro-Watch
1. From the Vista keypad, enter into the programming mode by entering the
Installer Code + [8] + [0] + [0] + [0]. The default installer code for the Vista
BPT panels is 4140.
2. Key in [*] + [0] + [5] – System Events Notify
a. Enter 1 to view all zone faults/restores.
3. Key in [*] + [1] + [4] – RS-232 Comm.

a. Enter 1 for Home Facility Automation Control
4. Key in [*] + [9] + [4] to move to the 2nd page of programming fields.
a. The display should now read “Program Mode * Fill # View100”
5. Key in [*] + [7] + [0] – Event Log Types

a. Enter 1.1.1.1.1 for enabling the event log.
6. Key in [*] + [7] + [8] – Extended Home Control Event Report

a. Enter 1
7. Key in [*] + [7] + [9] – Home Control Event Report Types

a. Enter 1.1.1.1.1
8. Key in [*] + [8] + [0] - Log Faults and Restores. Enables/Disables zone
faults/restores from going to the Serial Port when Home Automation is

Additional Vista Panel configurations

Assign keypad to partition 1
Create a Master user that should be able to Arm/Disarm partitions,

Bypass/Unbypass zones, etc. Assign all the partitions enabled.
o Tip: For adding user 002 with user code 1234, enter [4140] + [8] +
[002] + [1234]
o Master user code must be provided in Pro-Watch within the panel
properties. It will be used to perform Arm/Disarm/Bypass/Unbypass
commands from Pro-Watch.
Testing the Vista Connection – Direct Serial Port Connection
To ensure the Vista panel is ready to communicate with Pro-Watch, a

communication test may be performed based upon the type of connection.
1. To test the direct connection to the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT

4100SM, connect the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT to the available
COM port on the Pro-Watch server.
2. Launch HyperTerminal application by clicking on Start > Programs >

Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal.
3. Enter a name for the connection and click OK.
4. In the Connect Using: pull down, select the COM port that is connected to
the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT panel.
5. Click the Configure button to edit the connection parameters. The COM
properties window will appear.
6. Set the Bits per second to 9600. Verify the Data bit is set to 8, Parity is set
to None and Stop bits to 1. The Flow control must be set to None. Click
OK to save and close the properties window.
7. Click OK to save the settings in the Connect screen to begin.
8. Once in the HyperTerminal window, press the Enter key. If the Vista panel
is properly connected and defined, the Vista panel will send a response of
08OK009E.
9. If no response from the Vista panel is received when the Enter key is
pressed, check the connections and the COM port on the PC.
10. Once the connection has been verified, exit HyperTeminal.
Testing the Vista Connection – UDS100/ UDS1100 Connection
To test the connection to the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT through the UDS
device and the network, make sure the UDS is connected to both the network
and to the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT, the power is on and the UDS has
been programmed.
1. Open a Command Prompt window by clicking on Start > Run.
2. In the open box, type CMD and click OK.
3. At the DOS Command Prompt type Telnet followed by a space, the IP

address of the UDS, space and then the Port number.
a. Example - telnet 192.168.1.14 3001
4. The window display will go blank and a blinking curser will appear.
5. If an error message is returned that says it could not open the host
connection on the port specified, check the following:
a. Verify that the port number entered is correct and matches the port
number entered in the UDS programming.
b. Verify that the port is not blocked by a network firewall.
c. Verify that a ping command is successfully sent to the IP address of
the UDS.
6. Press the Enter key. The Vista panel will respond with 08OK009E. If the
Vista panel does not respond, verify the Vista panel programming and the
connection between the Vista 128BPT or Vista 250BPT panel and the
UDS100 or UDS1100.
7. Once communication has been verified, close the Command Prompt

window.
Vista BPT Channel Setup
The following section will cover the basic steps for programming a Vista BPT
channel into Pro-Watch.
1. Open the Hardware Configuration window by clicking on the Hardware

Configuration icon in the Viewer window.
2. From the hardware Configuration window, right click in explorer window

and select New > Channel.
3. The Create a Channel window will open. In Channel Type: select Vista
from the pull down list and click OK
4. In the Channel Information screen, enter in a Description for the new
channel, the Time Zone that the panel will operate in and verify the
Installed box is checked. Click Next to continue.
5. In the Communication Parameters screen, select the Port Type that will be
used.
o If using a COM port on the server, select Hardwired. Select the

COM Port that the Vista panel is connected to and set the Baud to
9600 (BPT). Set the Word Size to 8N1, the Poll Interval to 40 and
the Retry Time to 20. Click Next to continue.
o If using a UDS device, set the Port type to TCP/IP. Enter the IP
address for the UDS Device in the first box. Enter the port number
(example: 3001) in the second box and click Next.
6. In the Partitions screen, add the partitions that this channel will be a
member of for Pro-Watch. If not using partitions, leave the window blank
and click Finish.
7. Once the channel wizard is complete and the channel is created, a

warning box will be displayed reminding the user that this channel will
need to be added to the appropriate routing group(s) before the events are
reported. If not using routing groups, the channel will be added to the
default routing group automatically. Click OK to continue.
Vista 128 BPT / Vista 250 BPT Panel Setup within Pro-Watch
The following section will cover the basic steps for programming a Vista BPT
panel into Pro-Watch.
1. From the Hardware Configuration window, right click in the explorer

window and select New > Panel.
2. The Pro-Watch Controller Manager window will open. Select the Site and
Channel that the Vista panel is connected to and click Next.
3. The Add Vista Panel window will now appear. Enter a Description for the
Vista panel and select the Panel Type being connected (250BPT or
128BPT). Click OK to continue.
4. After clicking OK, there will be a delay while Pro-Watch creates the panel
and the points table for this new device. This delay can take a few
minutes, please wait as panel tables are created.
5. Once the tables are completed in the database, the Add Vista Panel
window will appear. The User Number and User Code must be entered
(used for sending commands) for the Vista panel. A location description
can be added to assist in troubleshooting, but is not required. Verify the
Installed box is checked and click OK.
Vista Zone Setup within Pro-Watch
Pro-Watch does not download any information to the Vista panel, but it does
need to be programmed to understand the type of zone and how it is used.
1. To enable the Vista zones in Pro-Watch, go into the Hardware

Configuration window and edit the Vista panel by either double clicking on
the panel or right click on the Vista panel and select Edit.
2. From the hardware tree within the Vista Panel screen, select each zone
that is to be used and check the In Logical Device box. The Zone Type
and Input Type for each zone may also be set; however, this is for
informational purposes only. Pro-Watch will not download the Zone Type
or Input Type information to the Vista Panel.
Vista Zone List Setup within Pro-Watch
Individual Vista zones cannot be bypassed in Pro-Watch. Pro-Watch can only

bypass Zone Lists. Because of this limitation, zone lists will need to be created
both in Pro-Watch and at the Vista panel.
1. In Pro-Watch, go into the Hardware Configuration window and edit the

Vista panel by either double clicking on the panel or right click on the Vista
panel and select Edit.
2. From the hardware tree within the Vista Panel screen, scroll down the list
of zones until the entry Unused Zone List 1 is displayed. Select the zone
list and check the box In Logical Device. This will enable the Zone List in
Pro-Watch.
3. Click OK to save and Close the Vista panel screen.
Vista Zone List Setup
1. From the Vista keypad, enter into the programming mode by entering the
Installer Code + [8] + [0] + [0] + [0]. The default installer code for the Vista
128BPT or Vista 250BPT panel is 4140.
2. Key in [*] + [9] + [3] on the Vista keypad to enter the menu programming
screens.
3. The user will be prompted by the following screens:
a. Zone Prog? 1 = Yes 0 = No.
i. Enter [*] to proceed.
b. Expert Mode? 1 = Yes 0 = No.

c. Report Code Prog? 1 = Yes 0 = No.

d. Alpha Prog? 1 = Yes 0 = No.

e. Device Prog? 1 = Yes 0 = No.

f. Output Pgm? 1 = Yes 0 = No.

i. Enter [1] to enter the output programming section and
proceed.
g. Enter Output # 00=Quit

h. Enter Zn List? 00=Quit
i. Enter [0] + [1] + [*] to create zone list 1
4. The add zone # screen will display as shown below.
5. Key in the 3 digit zone number to add to the zone list followed by the [*]
key.
a. Example, to add the hardwired zone #3 to this zone list, key in [0] +
[0] + [3] + [*].
6. Additional individual zones may be added to the list by repeating the entry
process. Once the zone list is completed, exit the zone list programming
by keying [0] + [0] + [0] + [*].
7. After exiting the zone list, the display will prompt the user with the
following displays:
a. 01 Del Zn List? [1] = Yes [0] = No
i. Enter [0] + [*] 01
b. Del Zones? [1] = Yes [0] = No

i. Enter [0] + [*]
c. Enter Zn List? 00=Quit

i. If additional zone lists need to be created, the user may
enter that zone list number now and repeat the above steps.
ii. If completed creating Zone Lists, key in [0] + [0] + [*].
8. If exited the Zone List Programming by keying in [0] + [0] + [*], the user will
now be prompted by the following:
a. View Zn List? 00=Quit
i. To view the Zone lists and their individual zone points that
make up the list, key in the zone number and follow the
prompts.
ii. To exit the Zn List, key in [0] + [0] + [*].
b. Quit Menu Mode? 1=Yes 0=No
i. Key in [1] + [*]
9. The user is now returned to the basic programming display on the keypad.
10. Key in [*] + [9] + [9] to exit the programming and reset the Vista panel.
Vista Panel Partition Setup within Pro-Watch
In Pro-Watch, go into the Hardware Configuration window and edit the

Vista panel by either double clicking on the panel or right click on the Vista
panel and select Edit.
From the hardware tree within the Vista Panel screen, scroll down the list
of zones until the entry Unused Partition 1 is displayed. Select the partition
from the list and check the box In Logical Device. This will enable the
Vista panel’s partition in Pro-Watch.
Click OK to save and exit the Vista panel screen.
The Zones in Partition listing in Pro-Watch will not be populated until the
Vista panel Vista Partition has been created in Pro-Watch and the Vista
panel has uploaded the information to Pro-Watch.
Testing the Vista and Pro-Watch Integration
Once the Vista panel is online and communicating with Pro-Watch (as
indicated by the green icon status for the panel in the Hardware
Configuration tree) some additional folders that have been created in the
Site directory will be displayed.
The new folders are listed as Vista Zone Lists, Vista Zones and Vista
Partitions.
The Vista Zones folder list will display the status of each individual zone.
Green, the zone is normal, red, the zone is off-normal (active or faulted).
The icons will only display the status of the points and cannot be used to
shunt or bypass a troubled point. The device filter settings may be
adjusted (right click on a device, select device filter) to set/change the
values of when the icon will display as red (faulted) or green (normal).
The Vista Zone Lists folder displays the zones lists that were created
earlier. Since Pro-Watch cannot bypass an individual zone, individual
zones are assigned to a list. These lists can be bypassed in Pro-Watch.
The Vista Partitions folder is used to control the arming and disarming of
the Vista panel. The Vista Panel Partition icon also displays the status of
the partition – Green, the device is ready to be armed, or Red, a zone is
faulted or in alarm.
To test the function of the Vista integration, with the Vista panel in Ready
mode, verify the Vista Panel Partition icon is green in Pro-Watch. Open
the Toggle Event window and verify the screen is cleared. Open the
Hardware Configuration window and select the Vista Panel Partition
folder. Right click on the partition and select Actions > Arm Stay. The Vista
panel will chime three times and the Vista panel will now be armed. Select
the Toggle Event window and the message partition armed wil be
displayed.
Return to the Hardware Configuration window and select the Vista Panel
Partition folder again. Right click on the partition and select Actions >
Disarm. The Vista panel will chime once and the panel will disarm. Select
the Toggle Event window and the message that the partition has been
disarmed, “Partition Disarmed, Keypad” will be displayed.
Vista Event Procedures within Pro-Watch
1. In Pro-Watch, go into the Database Configuration window chose Event

Procedures.
2. Right click and choose New Event Procedures…
3. In the Add Event Procedure window enter a Name into the Description
field and then click Add
In the define Event Procedure window choose a command.
o There are five commands available to send to the Vista systems.
1. Arm Vista Partition
2. Disarm Vista Partition
3. Bypass Zones
4. Unbypass Zones
5. Update Panel Information
When choosing the Arm Vista Partition command the procedure will also
require an additional arm command selection. The choices are listed in
the example below:
Click OK to save and exit the Define Event Procedure screen.
Additional Event Procedure Commands may be added.
The Event Procedure can now be manually executed, associated with an

Event Trigger, or associated with any event within a logical device.
