What does a conversation mean?
• A conversation means basically
the linguistic interaction
between two or more people.
• Generally, such interaction has
the same topic in discussion.
• In speech, the topic usually
changes a lot, while in writing it
often remains the same.
• Oral conversations are the most
common, due the fact they are
more versatile.
Public conversations
• Having a conversation in public
implies a certain level of social
abilities to interact with other
people.
• An oral conversation in public
means that several people are
sharing more than a message; they
are sharing an instant of their lives.
• In English speaking countries,
public conversations often take
place in restaurants, cafés, etc.
Virtual conversations
• All virtual conversations are
computerized.
• Most of the virtual conversations
occurs within the spaces of
social networks or smartphone
applications, such as WhatsApp.
• Virtual conversations go
worldwide, and can be recorded
through software devices.
Textual conversations
• The most traditional way to have
a conversation.
• Letters are slow in motion, but
they remain classical through
time.
• Several textual conversations are
shown in literature, music and
art.
Conversations in science fiction: the case of
holograms
• In the (near) future,
conversations may happen like
in Star Wars and other sci-fi
stories: through holograms.
• A hologram is a type of three-
dimensional representation of
objects and people.
• The conversation through
holograms is entirely virtual.
The consequences of virtual conversation
• Virtual conversation has replaced
face-to-face conversations, in
several contexts.
• Although it has connected much
people along the world, it revealed
a change in the socialization of
people.
• Indeed, one of the most dramatic
consequences of virtual
conversation is the reduction of
physical interaction in people
during face-to-face talks.
Netiquette
• The core rules of the Internet, in
which people has to behave
while writing their ideas online.
• It works with all the digital
platforms: blogs, newspapers,
comment boxes, social
networks, chat rooms, forums,
etc.
