PERSONAL STATEMENT

I, being a student whose major is Behavioral Sciences, this

experience would be very beneficial for me. The anatomization of
the mores of South Korea will help me understand and give a more
holistic approach on the nature of human beings. I am always on
the lookout for something that will strengthen my grasp on my
subject. The moment this program came across my eyes; I instantly
knew that I had to apply for it. The reason I
have petitioned for this is that I'm attracted to the peculiar
lifestyle of South Korea. Ever since I was a young kid I had
always been interested in history of anything, the notion of
learning about something that happened many years ago gives me a
kind of hidden thrill. The fascination doesn't stop here, even
the framework of old architecture
is riveting for me.
I became familiar with South Korean culture through its show
business as it has been blooming in all parts of the world and
catching everyone’s attention. The dramas or reality shows I
watched gave me the initial introduction to this new culture.
After that I got intrigued at a level that I started learning
about this myself through internet and books. The history, which
showed the officials from high families who ruled over the crown
and the king himself being bound and submissive to them. How the
three kingdoms united after so many struggles. The customs of
each of the kingdom had varied in different sort even though
belonging to the same land. I have also observed through my not
so thoroughly search, how the area which was occupied by Silla
and Baekje back then is now south Korea and how their cultures
have similarities. The same goes
for Goguryeo which is known as North Korea. From what I have
observed Silla had been more vivid and free- spirited as compared
to Goguryeo who had been strict in these matters. And the
comparison between North and South Korea is same. I would love to
see the actual history of all assessments I have been making.
The new era that South Korea has entered into has been
attracting many people around every corner in the world. The
modernization of it has its own appeal. It’s world renowned
universities, its culture, festival and traditions have a
spellbinding effect. Therefore, this program would pave the way
for the astounding experience which lies across.
