LatinFest+

Billboard and Telemundo announced today (Feb. 19) two new highly-anticipated panels
taking place at this year's inagural LatinFest+ set to take place in Las Vegas in
April. Exploring the urban and trap corridos movement, the "Regional Mexican Goes
Urban" panel will discuss the newest regional Mexican music trend of fusing
traditional corrido beats with urban or trap music. The discussion will feature
key players ushering the movement such as label executives and artists who are
moving forward the trend. Featued panelists include T3R Elemento’s Sergio Cárdenas,
DEL Records founder Ángel Del Villar, Legado 7’s Alex Guerra, Rancho Humilde’s co-
founder Jimmy Humilde, Fuerza Regida’s Jesús Ortiz Paz, singer-songwriter Lenin
Ramírez and Arsenal Efectivo’s Shrek. "Regional Goes Urban" will take place
Tuesday, April 21. The other announced panel, "On the Rise: The New Generation of
Urban Men and Women," is a spinoff of Billboard's On the Rise franchise published
biweekly spotlighiting up-and-coming artists who are making waves in music. On
Wednesday, April 22, enre-bending newcomers Natanael Cano, Cazzu, Jhay Cortez,
Lunay, Mariah, Sech, Myke Towers and Manuel Turizo will join the candid
conversation to discuss how they're pushing boundaries in the urban and trap
genres. Cortez, Sech and Turizo all join the panel in the midst of tremendous
success, having recently been announced as finalists in the artist of the year, new
category at the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Cano, who is behind the corridos
tumbados movement with songs that have gained popularity among young listeners and
superstar Bad Bunny who jumped on a remix of Cano's "Soy el Diablo." Towers joins
the panel following the success of his sophomore album Easy Money, Baby, which
debuted at No. 1 on the Feb. 8 Top Latin Albums and Latin Rhythm Albums charts.
Lunay, who in only 18 months of his career has already made an impact in the Latin
music business, completes the lineup of panelists, joined also by Argentine star
Cazzu and “Perreito” singer Mariah, two female powerhouses making waves in the Trap
genre. Other stars confirmed so far to participate at LatinFest+ include Ozuna, J
Balvin, Rosalía and Los Tigres del Norte. Registration for 2020 LatinFest+ is
already open at latinfestplus.com. The inaugural Latinfest+ also marks the 30th
anniversary of Billboard’s Latin Music Conference, the longest-running and biggest
Latin music gathering in the world. Latinfest+ will be an immersive, week-long
experience for the Latin entertainment industry, artists, executives and fans and
will include superstar conversations, industry panels and workshops, celebrity
fireside chats, live concerts, fan experiences and live activations of some of
Billboard’s most celebrated franchises, including Growing Up Latino. The three-day
music event culminates with the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will air
live April 23 on Telemundo. © Provided by Billboard Latin Fest 2020

David Bowie and Mariah Carey

David Bowie The disc jockey Steve Wright used to have a funny segment on his Radio
1 show in which an impressionist would make mundane comments in the unmistakable
style of David Bowie. And that's the singer's problem - no matter who he plays he
is unmistakably David Bowie. Consequently his best performance was in Nic Roeg's
The Man Who Fell To Earth in which he was a skinny alien, a role not a million
light years removed from his real-life musical persona of the time. But as vampire
John Blaylock in The Hunger and Major Jack Celliers in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence
he made wooden furniture looked animated by contrast. He cropped up again recently
in Ben Stiller's unfunny comedy Zoolander. His screen time was mercifully brief.
Mariah Carey The crash and burn horror that was Glitter, a rags to riches saga of a
singer - not unlike Carey's own life story, was so breathtakingly bad that it had
critics struggling to find suitable images to convey the depths of their dismay.
"An unintentionally hilarious compendium of time-tested cinematic cliches that
illustrates the chasm between hopeful imitation and successful duplication," opined
The New York Times. "This star vehicle for Mariah Carey is primarily a showcase for
her breasts," said the Washington Post. The universal slating doesn't appear to
have put Carey off though. She will next appear in Wisegirls, a mafia caper in
which she stars alongside Mira Sorvino. Share or comment on this article:
