Welding is a process of joining two or more materials engineering, with or
without a base metal melting process. Friction welding technology (Friction Welding) is one technique of solid welding or welding without melting process (Solid-State Welding). This study was conducted to determine the mechanical properties of the Characteristics of friction welding Al with Cu using a variation of contact time for 3, 5, 7 minutes and chamfer angle 25o, 45o, 60o. spindle rotational speed during the welding process set 2500 rpm. Welding results show that the contact time for 3 minutes at chamfer angle 60° produces the highest tensile strength (49 MPa), when compared with other parameters. The next variation of the highest hardness value indicated on the copper side with average (107.3 VHN) whereas aluminum (58.6 VHN), test results microstructure connection area with a magnification of 1000x obtained information connecting Al with Cu using friction welding method successfully do this can be proved by diffusion in this area. These preliminary results provide the potential for advanced study in various other welding parameters in order to obtain quality welds optimum friction for friction welding process of Al-Cu.
