Character Trait Evidence

Strong Warrior  He manages to defeat Gawain in the competition to


find the strongest and finest knights in the country
 He becomes the first knight of the Round Table
Loyal  He remains faithful and loyal to King Arthur even after
he is banished from Camelot – he refuses to fight King
Arthur when challenged by him
 When he learns what Mordred has done, he helps
King Arthur to fight Mordred
 He finds Mordred and kills him before Mordred could
kill King Arthur
Honourable  He knows that it is wrong to fall in love with
Guinevere and so he does the right thing by leaving
Camelot without a fight
 He honours King Arthur’s last words to throw the
sword into the water and to find Guinevere to look
after her.
 In the end, Lancelot still respects and honours King
Arthur as he addresses him as “my lord”.

Guinevere
- First meets King Arthur at the feast after King Arthur defeated the North
Lords
- Marries King Arthur and becomes the Queen of England
- Gives King Arthur the Round Table
- Becomes very close to Lancelot
- Is imprisoned (dipenjarakan) by Mordred when he proclaims himself as
the King

Good listener - She listens with great interest to King Arthur’s
stories after returns from battles
Friendly and hospitable - She welcomes Mordred and Morgan with open
arms when they arrive to stay at Camelot
Trusting - When King Arthur tells her he dreams about
Mordred, she asks him not to worry about Mordred
and Morgan and believes that they are good
people.
Antagonist
1. Morgan
- King Arthur’s half sister
- First meets Arthur after he has become the King
- Able to see the future
- An adversary to both King Arthur and Guinevere
- Has a son named Mordred

Has magical powers - She can see future from a crystal ball. She sees a very
unhappy future for King Arthur and Guinevere, and
predicts King Arthur’s death and Mordred’s future as
king
Cunning - She pretends to be friendly and caring when she and
Mordred stay at Camelot
Greedy - She intends for Mordred to take the throne after King
Arthur’s death and schemes with Mordred to get of
King Arthur

2. Mordred
- Morgan’s son and King Arthur’s nephew
- Merlin warns King Arthur of him
- Rebels against King Arthur with his own army
- Killed by Lancelot during the last battle

Cunning - He tries to poison King Arthur’s mind and to destroy
(Licik/penuh dengan his confidence as King. He also tries to break the
tipu muslihat) friendship between King Arthur and Lancelot
- He tells King Arthur that Guinevere and Lancelot are
always together and are perhaps in love
- He also pretends to show concern towards King
Arthur. He tells him to be strong and to find Lancelot
and fight him when in truth he just wants to get rid of
King Arthur
Impatient - King Arthur has already decided that Mordred will
succeed him upon his death. However, he is unable
to wait and comes up with a plan to overthrow King
Arthur
A traitor - He tells everyone that King Arthur has been killed in
battle and proclaims himself as the new king of
England
- He demands King Arthur to give up his crown and
challenges him to a fight
- When King Arthur’s sword is broken, he tries to kill
him
Themes
1. Courage
- King Arthur and his knights display the element of courage. Arthur was just a young
boy when he accepts the challenge to pull the sword out of the magic stone.
Everyone is sceptical (doubtful) of his abilities but young Arthur is not easily
discouraged
- When the lords from the Norths are preparing to fight against King Arthur, he is not
afraid. With his courage, he manages to win the battle
- King Arthur and his knights fight against Mordred’s army without fear until many die
in battle

2. Loyalty and sacrifice


- The knights are always ready to defend the country to bring peace and harmony to
the people
- Gawain sacrifices his life for King Arthur. He dies in the battle against Mordred’s
army
- Lancelot remains loyal towards Kin Arthur. He comes with his men to help King
Arthur to fight against Mordred’s army, and killin Mordred in the end.

3. Betrayal (Pengkhianatan)
- King Arthurs is betrayed by his Mordred, his own nephew, who schemes to get King
Arthur out of the way so that he could be the King. He spreads false news that King
Arthur is killed in battle

4. Help one in need


- Merlin teaches and guides Arthur well for 4 years on how to be a good king.
- Merlin gives King Arthur a magic sword to help him in battles. With the magic sword,
King Arthur is able to win many battles
- In the end, Merlin takes the badly wounded King Arthur with him
