Class Expectations
o Your actions should not inhibit anyone’s ability to learn and engage in class.
o Demonstrate the STAR qualities in the classroom.
o Purposeful, active participation in this course is necessary for success.
o Use your time wisely.
o Respect yourself, others, equipment, and the classroom.
o Be prepared for class with:
- Materials and assignments
- Positive attitude and willingness to participate
Absences: See the student handbook
o Unexcused absences will result in no points for daily assignments including the warm-up.
o Warm-ups missed due to tardiness may not be made up.
Prohibited items: These items will not be allowed in the classroom unless approved by Mr. Ernst.
o Food
o Drinks (Non-water)
o Electronic Devices (see cell phone policy below)
Cell Phones: The following items will not be allowed in class unless specified by Mr. Ernst.
o Cell phones
o Ear buds/head phones/speakers of any kind
Cheating: See the student handbook for details on academic integrity.
o First offense – zero on the assignment and a call home.
o Second offense – possible drop-fail from class.
Assignments: No Late Work
o All assignments must be completed individually, group-work assignments will be
completed by each student.
o Assignment turned in late will not receive full credit. Two points will be deducted on all
assignments not completed on time.
o In-class assignments must be completed and submitted before the end of class.
o Assignments without a name will receive no credit.
o Illegible work will not be accepted.
o All questions and diagrams pertaining to the assignments from the text book or lab
assignments MUST be copied and/or answered with complete sentences and all work
must be shown to receive credit. (a list of short answers will not be accepted)
Make-up work:
o For EXCUSED ABSENCES only!
o Students will be given one week from the last day of absence to complete any make-up
work. This includes multiple day absences.
School trips:
o School trips are not considered an absence.
o It is the responsibility of the student to get notes and materials prior to missing class.
o All assignments are due the following class period.
o Any quiz or test given in the student’s absence must be made up prior to the next class
period.
Materials:
o Composition o Pens/Pencils o Scotch tape
notebook o Scissors o Box of tissue
o Colored pencils
Student Interactive Notebook:
o Each student will keep an interactive notebook for warm-ups, assignments, responses,
and reflections.
o Periodic notebook checks will assess assignments for completion, correctness, neatness,
and organization.
Laboratory guidelines:
o Follow the lab safety guidelines.
o Lab materials are to be used only during assigned lab time or with expressed permission.
o Inappropriate use of lab materials or failure to follow the lab safety guidelines will result
in loss of participation points.
o Repeated offenses will result in the loss of lab privileges.
o An alternative assignment will be given if the lab cannot be made up.
Tests and Quizzes:
o No test re-takes.
o Students may use their interactive science notebooks during quizzes.
Grades
o Grades will be determined using weighted categories

Labs – 30% A = 89.5% and above


ISN/Homework – 15% B = 79.5% - 89.4%
Tests – 45% C = 69.5% - 79.4%
Final – 10% D = 59.5% - 69.4%
F = 59.4% and below
