Students’ Perceptions Towards The Use Of Speeches From UNICEF Ambassadors As Authentic
Listening Materials
CHAPTER 1 A. Background of study

B. Problem statement
Most EFL students experience confused to grasp information from
spoken language since naturally foreign speakers usually speak in
various volumes and speeds with frequent interruptions. Further, every
foreign speaker bring his/her own accent into spoken communication to
others.

C. Limitation of Problems
The writer limit is only up to what are students’ perceptions towards the
use of speeches from UNICEF Ambassador as authentic listening
materials

D. Objective of the research


1. General Objective : To find out the moral value from using speeches
from UNICEF Ambassador as authentic listening materials
2. Specific Objective : To describe the students’ perceptions towards
the use of speeches from UNICEF Ambassador as authentic listening
materials.

E. Research questions and Assumption


1. Research questions
a. What is students’ perception towards the use of speeches from
UNICEF Ambassador as authentic listening materials?
b. What moral values can students emulate towards the speeches
from UNICEF Ambassador?
2. Assumption
This study deals with the assumption that the use of the speeches
from UNICEF Ambassador as authentic listening materials can be an
alternative way for students to develop their listening
comprehension with a variety of accents.
F. Benefit of the research
a. To Teacher : Teacher can make this authentic material into another
skills based on KI and KD in curriculum.
b. To students : student can enrich the knowledge of listening in
various accents and capture the moral value of each speech.
c. To future researcher : this research will give some contribution and
information for next researches

C. Conceptual framework
The writer observation in the classroom when teacher using speeches
from UNICEF Ambassador as authentic learning material. The subject
would be directly taught by the writer, during the implementation of
teaching listening, the writer would like to analyze learners attitudes
towards the subject, and describe learners’ progress.

CHAPTER 3 A. Research Design


Research 1. Technique and procedures of collecting the data
Methodology a. Technique : Observation/ Study Case
b. Instrument : Questioners with closes-end up statement strongly
agree, agree, undecided, disagree, strongly disagree and
interview the representative of participant.
Enhance validity of questioner by theory is adapt questioner
from Hedge (1985: 66-67) , consisted of 20 items to EFL Students
to discover their attitudes and perceptions towards using
authentic listening material in language classroom, and an
interview guide to EFL students which recorded by the lecturer
as low, medium and high achievers at the listening class.

2. Data and The sources of data


a. Source of Data : Youtube/ UNICEF account
b. Data: The result of questioners and interview from participant
c. Participant : The second semester students of ELT department in
Universitas Islam Nusantara”

3. Data Analysis
From the result of questioners the participant will divided into two
groups and categorized by agree group and disagree group, after
that the writer take 3 participant each group for interview. then see
what the students perception about speeches UNICEF ambassador
as authentic listening materials.
