The motivation will be given as an interactive group quiz bee activity.
This will also be a drill that will recall the previous lesson about – Agencies
Involved in Disaster Risk Reduction. A PowerPoint presentation will be used.

Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities

Last meeting, we discussed the agencies
involved in disaster readiness and risk
reduction. Most of the agencies that we
talked about belong to the executive
branch of the Philippine government.
These agencies have specific
responsibilities and contributions in
securing the safety and welfare of the
people in times of disasters. So, before
we proceed to our next lesson, let us
exercise your knowledge on our previous
lesson through an activity. This activity
will be a group activity and we will do it
through a quiz bee. Group the students
into six groups. Each group will be given
a custom made letters, to be used as their
answers to the questions to follow. The students will go to their
corresponding groups and will get
their corresponding letters.
Here are the instructions to our activity:
- minimize noise, no jeering and
shouting;
- the question will be read twice, so
better listen attentively;
- you are given 10 seconds to decide
for your answer; and
- after the time limit, raise the letter
of your corresponding answer. The students will listen attentively.

B. Lesson Proper
Discuss the different materials included in a survival kit and their
importance. A PowerPoint presentation will be used.

Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities

These agencies provide a great support to
the community before, during and after a
disaster. But what if, help won’t come on
time? What will you do? The students will give their personal
answers to the question.
There are instances when we cannot
predict what will happen when we
encounter strong and destructive hazards.
That is why we should always be
prepared and aware of what is happening.
And one way to be prepared is to have
your own survival kit. Now, what do you
know about survival kits? A survival kit enables a person to get
nourishment in times of disasters.
A survival kit is a package of basic
tools and supplies prepared in advance
as an aid to survival in an emergency.
A survival kit should have enough
supplies and tools that could last for
72 hours or 3 days.

Knowing what a survival kit is, what are

we going to include in it? I clustered the
materials in a survival kits into different
categories.

This is a copy of the lecture to be distributed to the students.

their classmates’ reflections and arguments.
